If top sources are to be believed Finance Secretary Ajit Kumar will be the next Cabinet Secretary.The 1964 batch Punjab cadre IAS officer Ajit Kumar is being backed by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Brijesh Mishra.Though, Home Secretary Kamal Pande and Defence Secretary Yogendra Narain are also in the run for the post. While Ajit Kumar will retire in February next,Pande and Narain in 2003.

Vasudev's `no' for RBI post

Secretary Expenditure C M Vasudev has expressed his reluctance to join the Reserve Bank of India as Deputy Governor.He may be the next Secretary Finance.

Padhi will be next DGP Orissa

Now this is certain that N C Padhi will be the next DGP of Orissa.The 1966 batch IPS officer of the Orissa cadre is currently Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.He will take over from Vajpayee the present DGP who is due to retire in July.

K P Singh appointed IB Chief

K P Singh has been appointed Chief of the Intelligence Bureau.He is 1966 batch IPS officer of the Undiivided Madhya Pradesh cadre He will take over from Shyamal Dutta who is retiring this month end.

IAS Changes in Punjab

About half a dozen IAS officers have been reshuffled in Punjab.Surinderjeet Singh Sandhu is the new Special Secretary Technical Education.Samir Kumar and Kulwant Singh have ben made Additional Secretary Parliamentary Affairs and Woman and Child Welfare respectively.P J Anand and Vinod Kumar Bhalla will be the Director Treasury and Lottery respectively. Ashok Kumar Singla has been made Principal Staff Officer of Faridkot Commissioner.
