Will Lyngdoh face impeachment ?

Will Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh be impeached ?. If the mood of the BJP is any indication then there is every possibility of the impeachment of the CEC. While, the ruling BJP is very upset others have praised Lyngdoh for his independent action in Gujarat.A clear picture would be clear in weeks to follow.

Empanelment of 1971 batch IAS officers

After pulls and pressures Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is believed to have cleared the empanelment of 30 IAS officers belonging to 1971 batch to the rank of Additional Secretary in the Government of India. Those reportedly empanelled include Messers Ashok Saikia, Dr D N Das, V Subramaniam,, Neeru Nanda, R N Swamy, S K Arora , Dr J Sridhar Sharma, Dev Das Chhotray,Sudhir Mankad, R N Das, S Y Qureshi, Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, K P Singh, Lijji Jacob, Baljit Singh Lalli, Sudip Banerjee, D S Mathur, G S Sahni, A K Dua, Chitra Zutshi, M Damodaran, Meena Gupta, Amitabh Pande, Surendra Kumar, M S Srinivasan, Harish Chandra Gupta, , Madhukar Gupta, Sheel Bhadra Banerjee, Dr Renuka Vishwanathan Lalit Sharma and A K Deb.

Media whispers

Media scene in the country is hotting up. A price war between The Hindustan Times and the Times of India is on in Chandigarh.A similar price war between the Nava Bharat, Lokmat Samachar and Nava Rashtra is on in Nagpur . All these newspapers are selling their papers at an invitation price of one Rupee per copy. Hindi daily titled Hari Bhumi, which has its base in Panipat, is going to launch its editions from Raipur and Ranchi.Its Bilaspur edition has been coming out for quite sometime now. The Lokmat Times after having finalised a pact with The Asian Age is going to re-launch the paper from August 17,2002. Dainik Hindustan contemplating to start its editions from Allahabad and Jamshedpur, Rajasthan Patrika has already launched its edition from Ahemdabad. Even Hindi edition of Outlook magazine would hit news stands in September.Dainik Bhaskar Jabalpur is already preparing to start its edition from Nagpur. Videocon is all set to start news TV channel which is to be headed by Kamleshwar. Sony TV is also planning to start news channel. The Pioneer group is launching an inflight magazine titled "Darpan" .It will be available to fliers of Indian Airlines and Alliance Air from August 15.

Samal to be CMD IIBI

Chairman and Managing Director of the Allahbad Bank B Samal has been appointed Chairman of Industrial Investment Bank of India.He would succeed Basudeb Sen who has resigned.

Pair of twins in IAS

Believe it or not there is a pair of twins in IAS. They are Lov and Kush of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. While, Lov Verma belongs to 1978 batch Kush Verma 1979 batch.

Foreign jaunt of CBDT official

The Member (Personnel) of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), an officer of the rank of Additional Secretary to GOI has gone on 15 days training to Canada in CIDA programme defeating all logic. He is due to retire in middle of September this year. How is he going to benefit the tax administration by getting trained at the age of 59 years? A young officer could have been trained instead and the training could have been utilised by the department in future from such an officer. Such a training is considered to be a pure foreign jaunt by top notched officers of CBDT.

IPS changes in Andhra Pradesh

Surya Prakash Rao will be Group Commander of the Grey Hounds. Venugopal Rao has been made SP Guntukul Rly Police. E Sanjeeva Rao and Navin Chandra have been promoted in CID and Intelligence respectively. B Srinivasulu and E Damodar will continue in Intelligence on promotion.Gurappa and Malla Reddy have been retained in Anti-Corruption Bureau as JD. T Yoganand and Jagmohan Reddy will be JD in ACD.Bheema Nayak and Sunder Kumar Das will now be Commanders of the AP Special Police. Balkrishna has been shifted to Vigilance.

Aslam Sherkhan to join Congress

Aslam Sherkhan is all set to rejoin the Congress. An official announcement to this effect is expected in a day or two.Aslam Sherkhan who was a minister of State in the Narsimha Rao Government had quit the party to join the BJP. And later he had joined the Nationalist Congress Party(CCP) being headed by Sharad Pawar.Even from there he was expelled about two months back.
