AIIMS controversy and Baijendra Kumar

N. Baijendra Kumar. IAS (1985- Chhattisgarh Cadre) who is currently on deputation to GOI as Deputy Director (Administration), AIIMS is needlessly been dragged in to a controversy over allotment of an accommodation at AIIMS campus by its Director. The trivial issue of allotment of an innocuous house is being used by a group of individuals, who have access to some powerful people and media to create an atmosphere so as to ease out Mr. Kumar from AIIMS and bring person of their choice to this post.
Mr. Kumar, who held many important assignments successfully in MP, is known for his integrity and straightforward working. In his effort to streamline the murky manipulative working environment at AIIMS he had stepped in to the toes of some vested interest with in AIIMS who have been "king makers" through faculty politics at AIIMS. Kumar's efforts to curb corruption at AIIMS have yielded results through raids by CBI in some departments and he could expose the Medical Entrance Examination racket recently.
Though the house allotment is as per the rules of AIIMS, entitlement of the officer and at least five previous Deputy directors have been allotted the similar accommodation; these vested interests thought it as an emotive issue to settle score with the officer. They tried to blow it out of proportion and through media started mud -slinging against the officer. They were successful in intimidating the director to initiate repatriation of the officer. How ever, they failed to judge the goodwill of the officer at the institute. A sharp and unprecedented reaction from all section of the employees in favour of Mr. Baijendra Kumar has put these people in the defensive. The Faculty of AIIMS started a signature campaign supporting the officer and exposing the design of the " caucus". The Resident Doctors association, The Nurses Union, The officers association, karmachari unions, SC ST welfare association., and scores of other technical and non-technical associations are actively opposing any move to repatriate Mr. Kumar from the institute. Judging the mood of the entire institute in favour of the officer, it is difficult to say now whether the " vested interest " will be successful in victimising another honest officer for doing right things.
