Grapevine has it in the South Block that the days of Foreign Secretary, Kanwal Sibbal, are numbered and 1967 batch IFS officer, Vijay Nambiar, will succeed him. One has to keep his fingers crossed till a final decision comes in.

Vij to be next Army Chief

Lt General Nirmal Chand Vij is being tipped to be next Army Chief. Official announcement to this effect is to be made in a week or so. He would succeed S Padmanabhan.

Shakti Sinha gets extension

Shakti Sinha has been granted one year extension in his tenure. Sinha is currently Adviser to the Executive Director World Bank in Washington. Tenure of 1979 batch Manipur-Tripura cadre IAS officer, Sinha, was scheduled to expire on November 1.

Girdhari Mohanty has been appointed new Spokesman of the CBI. He is 1982 batch Indian Information Service Officer.

One month extension to J&K Chief Secretary

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Indrajeet Singh Malhi, has been granted one month extension in service. 1966 batch IAS officer, Malhi, was scheduled to retire on October 31. In view of the current political situation the Government of India has given one month extension.

P S Prasad and Divakar Prasad to be empanelled

Two 1968 batch IPS officers Mssrs Divakar Prasad and P S Prasad are being empanelled to the rank of DG in the Government of India in a month or two. Uttar Pradesh cadre officer, P S Prasad, and Himachal Pradesh cadre officer, Divakar Prasad, have been found fit for the empanelment during the last review.

1971 batch IAS to be CMD NAFED

Who will be the new CMD of NAFED ?. 1971 batch IAS officer is being appointed CMD in a week or so. The post has fallen vacant following the appointment of Priyadarshi Thakur as AS &FA in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Union Shipping Ministry has appointed Special Secretary Transport, West Bengal Government, Kashi Nath Behera as Government Director on the Board of Directors of Hoogly Dock and Port Engineering Lts.Kolkata. Behera is 1985 batch IAS officer.

IFS changes in Gujarat

M L Sharma will be new PCCF in Gujarat. He would replace 1968 batch IFS officer J P Agrawal who is superannuating tomorrow. Other changes include S R Goyal CCF (D & M), B N Shrivastava CCF (TRO), R N Tripathi CCF (Vigilance).Mssrs S K Chaturvedi, A K Jha, Kuldip Goyal and R D Kamboj are likely to be made CF.
