Will Rajan Kashyap be Chief Secretary of Punjab ?

Picking the right CS at the right time is no less than solving a quadratic equation or an algebric expression for Punjab Chief Minister, Amrinder singh. It's all about making right moves, in the right format, at the right time so that the end result tallies to what was actually desired in the first place. Here's a brief insight into it.For the moment, it appears that Mr. Rajan Kashyap, the senior most IAS officer (1965 batch), not only in Punjab but in the entire country, seems to be gradually cruising towards the Chief Secreteryship of Punjab. However, there are other stalwarts from the state in the reckoning too. They include Mr. Jai Singh Gill, Mr. Rajesh Chhabra, Mr. SK Tuteja, Mr. SS Dawra and Mr. NS Rattan. What is interesting is that Rajan Kashyap has only three months to serve. Therefore, if Amrinder Singh appoints Kashyap as the CS and he further gets an extension of another 3 months, then Kashyap is sure to stay in the office till October end. That would give CM Amrinder Singh the right time to pick up another CS in his favour for a long term.If sources inside the CMO are to be believed, the Punjab Government is heavily inclined towards IAS officer of 1970 batch, PK Verma. But Verma would have to supercede almost nine senior bureaucrats to bag the coveted post. Therefore if Rajan Kashyap stays as the CS till October end, as let us say the interim Chief Secretery, then seven senior officers who were in the way of PK Verma becoming the CS would retire by that time. They are Mr. Bhagat Singh, Mr. Daljeet Jaijee, Ms Ravneet Kaur, Mr. NS Rattan, Ms. Jyotsna Khanna and Mr. SS Dawra. This would solve all complicated steps of the difficult equation for Amarinder Singh and make it all the more easier to ultimately appoint PK Verma as the CS without causing too much of a flutter in the bureaucratic circle of the state.
