Punjab police and the new DGP

With A.A.Siddiqui taking over the reigns of Punjab Police in his hands, Punjab seems to be poised ahead for a brand new innings of proactive governance.However, the roving eye spots a glaring divide within Punjab Police and tries to trace the power equation at the senior strata of one of the country's most controversial yet prestigious police forces. Massive infighting within Punjab Police presents a truly sad and a sordid saga.
Here's a brief insight into it:
It's all about being on the right side of the present DGP and the Government in power.Who figures in the close coterie of A.A.Siddiqui is truly a cyrstal maze and no less than a conundrum to solve. However, it is believed that because of his stints at FCI, CRPF, Police Academy Phillaur and Manipur, Siddiqui didn't have too much of time on his hands to weave a magical coterie around him. However, his fondness for S.K.Sharma is a known fact as both of them worked in tandem for the Special Investigation Team ( S.I.T) that probed the much controversial Kidney Scam which had rocked Punjab.Albeit, even Siddiqui's name was in the line of fire because of the the Siti Cable scam,another issue that moved almost every media organization in the state, but that was just a momentary cloud of abberation over him, which it seems has blown away or should we say ...has been blown away, with due respect to the fine officer.It is also learnt that Siddiqui might try to rehabilitate ADGP Administration, Mohd Izhar Alam to a better position who had been sidelined by the Akalis, and also charged by them of being highly atrocious to the Sikhs in the state. Alam's stint as the IG Zone, Srinagar, while he was away on deputation to J&K also came under the scanner for various reasons and proved to be another contoversy plagued posting.Yet Siddiqui's liking for him remains unaffected. Meanwhile S.K.Verma's inhibition for Siddiqui is a well known fact within the higher echelons of Punjab Police, as Verma himself was a contender
for the DGP's post at one point of time.At the same time, it is well consolidated that G.S.Aujla and A.A.Siddiqui don't see eye to eye with each other ever since Siddiqui succeeded Aujla at the Police academy, Phillaur. IPS officer A.P.Bhatnagar is also not reckoned to be in the good books of the Amarinder Singh Govt and so is Rajan Gupta. Ever since Rajan Gupta's P.S.O, Gurdial Ram was arrested in the Kidney Scam after his calls were monitored by the vigilance , there is a huge anti wave against Rajan Gupta and he has definitely found himself to be on the wrong side of the Government and A.A.Siddiqui.ADGP K.K.Attri finds himself in the boondocks too since his name featured in a shaded purchase of wireless sets for Punjab Police. Therefore, Attri
doesn't seem to be on the right side of the power lobby too. However, IPS officers S.M.Sharma, P.M.Das, Sanjeev Gupta, Sumedh Saini, Dinkar Gupta, C.S.R.Reddy and Sanjiv Kalra seem to be the lucky few who
find themselves on the right side of the tide....For all you know, the near future could see them riding the tide too!!Meanwhile Rajinder Singh could run the risk of being sidelined for being too close to former DGP, M.S.Bhullar.IG Patiala Shashikant and IG Jalandhar, J P Birdi are also likely to be shifted out in the near future. Shashikant apparently complained about being threatened by miscreants and it was taken as a failure on his part to handle the situation. On the other hand, J P Birdi apparently drew the ire of ADGP, D.R.Bhatti over Talhan Caste violence issue. Interestingly, both of them belong to the Schedule Caste and this time Bhatti might have the better say over Birdi. In all likelihood, Birdi might see himself to be out of the zone itself.One can also smell of a dog eat dog competition between IPS officers, P.Lal and J.S.Chahal with both of them lobbying hard to be the next DG Homeguards, though P.Lal is better poised to be the next DG Homeguard.Of two powerful advisors of the Chief Minister, Rana Sodhi and B.I.S.Chahal, Rana Sodhi seems to be the one who would be more effective with Siddiqui as he and Siddiqui share a camaraderie since Siddiqui was SSP Ferozepur.Both are quite well known to each other.Come what may, whether they find themself in the coterie of the current DGP A.A.Siddiqui and in good books of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, each of the officers mentioned in the report above happens to be a glorious IPS officer who toils day and night to preserve the dignity, name, fame and prestige of a powerful phenomenon called Punjab Police.With Siddiqui at the helm of law and order in Punjab, hope each of the competent officers of the Punjab Cadre joins hands with each other to make Punjab a better place to live in. Let's hope the proactive DGP is able to bring about a sea change in the policing set up of Punjab.
