IAS averse to Home Ministry

Believe it or not, the IAS were suddenly becoming averse to serving in the home Ministry. This is also evident from the fact that the government has been forced to revise its `cooling-off' period. IAS are required to serve a three year cooling-off period in their home cadres after serving a five year deputation at the centre. For the Home Ministry, the government has reduced this cooling off period to two years as an incentive.

Now Home Ministry to look after immigration work

The Union Home Ministry has now taken the work of immigration in border areas from the local police. This has been done to put a more effective check on intruders from across the border.
