Bureaucratic changes likely today

A bureaucratic reshuffle is expected to take place in the Government of India today.

Bhatia to return

1990 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS officer, Mukhmeet Singh Bhatia, joined World Bank as a Consultant last year after fighting with the Jharkhand Government for leave which was granted to him after political intervention. Now it has been discovered that his Public Administration education at Harvard (2000-2002) was fully funded by a World Bank scholarship - the terms of which prohibit him from joining the World Bank. The World Bank has now reportedly decided to terminate his appointment and send him back to India.

Will Narain Swamy be PNB' CMD ?

In the event of S S Kohli's appointment as the Deputy Governor RBI, ED Narain Swamy is sure to be appointed as Chairman of the Punjab National Bank.

Rashmi to be National Expert

Rashmi Sharma, 1984 batch IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh, will join as National Expert on an externally aided research project on school education being implemented by the Centre for Education, Management and Development, New Delhi, from March 1, 2003. Her deputation to the project for a period of two years has been cleared by DOPT last week. Rashmi is presently Director, Dept. of Elementary Education and her central deputation expires next month. The State Government has also agreed to spare her services for the project.

Former DG cleared of charges

Former DG of the Sports Authority of India, DK Mittal, has been cleared of all the charges by the CBI. The 1967 batch officer of UP cadre was chargesheeted by the investigating agency in 2001.

Uttaranchal IAS under observation

About a dozen IAS officers in Uttaranchal are these days under observation for a variety of allegations against them. It is said that Uttaranchal being a new state, several officials posted there made hay while the sun shine. The fields open to them were sale, purchase and even construction works.

JS in Shipping Ministry

It is now widely believed that the post of Joint Secretary lying vacant in the Shipping Ministry will be filled by a man of Shatrughan Sinha's choice. Someone from Bihar is likely to be sent soon.

Mishra is UP IPS Association President

Y K Mishra has been elected President of the UP IPS Association. The other office bearers of the Association include Atul Kumar as Secretary, Mohammad Naseem and Surya Kumar Shukla - Vice President and General Secretary respectively while those nominated to the Executive are Anil Kumar Jain, Javed Ahmad and Rajeev Ranjan Verma.

Surana in HEG Board of Directors

Ramesh C Surana, Executive Director and CEO, of HEG Ltd. has been inducted into the Board of Directors of the Company. HEG Ltd is a Rs 600 crore flagship company of the 1700 crore LNJ Bhilwara Group. Surana also holds various voluntary positions in PHDCCI, CII and MPCCI.

With their DPC being held in the Madhya Pradesh secretariat recently, as many as three dozen DFOs are likely to be promoted soon.
