Powerful Punjab DIG bows down to Destiny Ludhiana range DIG Siddhartha Chattopadhyaya learnt in quite an unusual way the indefatigable and infallible power of destiny. 1986 batch officer, Chattopadhyaya had been the star crusader for Chief Minister Amrinder Singh in his Badal Bashing tirade. Chief Minister Amrinder Singh relied immensely on Chattopadhyaya's unique investigative skills and sent him to USA to unearth Badal's assets and handed over the command of tracing and unearthing Badal's properties and erring relatives to the intelligent Bengali officer.Pleased by Chattopadhyaya's super performance in his assigned duties, Amrinder Singh rewarded him with his desired , posting of DIG Ludhiana. So when Chattopadhyaya finally managed to position himself in Ludhiana, he proved his close proximity to the Chief Minister in the loudest way and emerged as one of the most powerful DIG's of Punjab. Clearly , the chief minister's most trusted DIG. However, the all powerful DIG learnt a lesson or two from mother Nature yesterday when in an attempt to jump a red light, the lawful officer rammed into an army school bus injuring around 30 school children. Many of the injured school children suffered minor head injuries too. While the DIG tried to run away from the spot of the accident, he was not allowed to do so by people at the spot. What is intriguing is that , in the light of the promotions due in Punjab next month , will Siddhartha Chattopadhyaya be affected at all by this unlawful act of his? Or will the Chief Minister let his personal preference for Chattopadhyaya overshadow this incident as he generally does for officers close to him.Point is if Amrinder Singh truly claims to be a champion of anti- corruption drives, then letting officers loyal to him and who indulge into unlawful activities is no less that any moral corruption. Chattopadhyaya has a proven track record of being a brave, intrepid and an A grade officer when it comes to his Professional side and surely has a long way to go in the state.Whatever happens ..would be seen by all? Link ups or no link ups, close to CM or not close to CM all these parameters fall terribly short when mother nature and destiny show, leave back a sign of their supremacy. |
