RAW chief is PMO's choice

The new RAW chief, C D Sahay, is the choice of the PMO. The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, it is said, prevailed upon to get Sahay the key post. The biggest plus point with him is that he is left with two years of service while BS Bedi whose name was also in the reckoning for the post is left with just seven months of service. Bedi was, however, the choice of the Deputy Prime Minister, LK Advani.

Country would have seen a new PM but ………….

There was a plan to change of face at the Prime Minister level on the completion of five years in power but the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election results changed the scheme of things. Grapevine has it that the Deputy Prime Minister, LK Advani, was to replace Atal Bihari Vajpayee on this day but the idea was dropped after the party lost in Himachal Pradesh.


Prabh Das is Joint Secretary Petroleum

Prabh Das is the new Joint Secretary-Petroleum in Government of India. 1981 batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, Prabh Das, has succeeded 1973 batch Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer Shivraj Singh. Singh is returning to the parent cadre after completion of his tenure.

Brahma to be Joint Secretary-Home

Hari Shankar Brahma is joining the Government of India as Joint Secretary, Home. He is 1975 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre.

Anuradha Thakur has been selected for the Chevening Gurukul Scholarship of the British Government . She is 1994 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre. It is a scholarship to study globalization and leadership

IAS -IPS to head power sector companies in Orissa !

Orissa government is looking for four officers to head its power sector companies as CEOs. The companies are CESCO ( H.Q, Bhubaneswar), WESCO (H.Q. Sambalpur) and SESCO (H.Q. Berhampur & Balasore). It is said that two IPS and two IAS will soon be posted as CEOs in these companies.

Toursim to get boost

With the joining of Dr V Venu as Deputy Secretary-Tourism, in the Union Ministry, Tourism is bound to get support from the centre. Dr Venu, of 1990 batch, is one of the dynamic IAS officer of Kerala. 1980 batch IAS officer of this cadre Amitabh Kant is already Joint Secretary in the same Ministry. Dr Venu and Kant, it may be pointed out, were instrumental in bringing the Prime Minister to Kerala for a holiday at Kumarvakom which made the place instantly popular world over.

Pande replaces Lamba in West Bengal

Even as, the 1977 batch IAS officer, Amarjit Singh Lamba, till recently Secretary-Agriculture Marketing, West Bengal, continues to extend his leave in USA, the 1974 batch IAS officer Bimal Pande has replaced him a few days ago.

Vyasjee empanelled

1982 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, Vyasjee, has been empanelled to the rank of Joint Secretary in the Government of India. He is currently posted in the Ministry of Mines.

If one was to go by the results of the recent elections for the Chairman of the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), NTPC Chairman, CP Jain, has defeated Subir Raha of the ONGC by a margin of 96-37 votes.

Mohan Katre dead

Former CBI Director Mohan Katre died in Pune on Wednesday. He was 73.
