BHEL board heaves a sigh of relief

At last board members of the country's one of the "Navaratnas"i.e.Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) are a relaxed lot. Reason for this is not far to seek. Last week only this website had exposed outgoing Heavy Industries Minister Bala Sahab Vikhe Patil's game plan. Patil had reportedly threatened BHEL's Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) K.G.Ramchandran to reduce retirement age of the entire board from 60 to 58, if his favourite was not appointed as Executive Director at BHEL's Bhopal plant. Soon after the exposse by this website Patil quit the Union cabinet. Interesting aspect of the entire episode is that BHEL CMD issued orders for appointing ED Planning in Corporate office, Delhi; P.T.Dev as the new ED of BHEL, Bhopal the same day when new incumbent was inducted as Heavy Industries Minister.Dev's likelihood of becoming ED at Bhopal plant of BHEL was also forecast on our website on April 15. He would succeed Samrendra Nath Roy who would superannuate on June 24,2003.
