Politician and an IAS officer

With the first round of transfers over, speculations of all kind have finally settled for good.Though more transfers are on the anvil but there surely is a sense of ease and comfort within the bureaucracy after the first round . However, the one bureaucrat who would be heaving a sigh of relief and thanking the heavens for the changes is 1988 batch Punjab Cadre officer, Sanjay Kumar. Kumar had been on the recieving end due to the despicable antics of a local politician for a long time as the capable bureaucrat had refused to bow down to him.Kumar, who was Commisioner Municipal Corporation, Patiala, had become an eyesore for the local Congress Mayor, Vishnu Sharma. Grapevine had it that local congressman Vishnu Sharma would want the able officer to bow down to his political plans and personal desires every now and then which the officer wouldn't. It is also rumoured that Vishnu Sharma would pressurize Kumar for numerous unpractical requests for his relatives, aquaintainces, local congress workers and kiths and kins which would be completely impractical and unreasaonable. However, of late , in the wake of pending transfers, the clever politician started announcing that he had "finally fixed" Kumar and that he had personally got the shunting orders of the bureucrat issued by the CMO. What an ingenious way of hitting below the belt of a bureaucrat!!Grapevine has it that Vishnu Sharma announced everywhere that Kumar was on his way out and this time "out" would mean one of the most unwanted and worthless posting. What an ingenious way of hitting a bureaucrat below the belt!! But what better smack could have landed on the loquacious politician's absurd plans and face when Chief Minister Amarinder Singh taking cognizance of the merit of Sanjay Kumar handed him the post of Chief Administrator, Punjab Urban Development Agency (PUDA). A highly prestigious and demanding post. Finally at the end of the day, he who mattered the most knew what mettle Sanjay Kumar had in him. Wonder when politicians would learn to give the due credit to bureaucrats in the country??
