Grapevine has it that on his recent visit to the Burail jail in Chandigarh, Justice O.P.Verma ,Punjab Governor, commented in a lighter vein, though he had visited many jails over his long legal career but never had the opportunity of being "lodged" in one. What does one think, would inmates of the jail have relished the passing "light and jovial" remark?Rumour mill has it that the inmates of the prison were defintely not too pleased by the remark. After all, no one was over there by choice.Isn't it like a noted psychiatrist saying that though I have been to many pyschiatry wards, but have never had the opportunity of being "lodged" in one?God forbid, if Justice Verma's wishes came true, what would happen then? Even a leading national English daily testifies to Justice Verma's "Jocular " remark!

New book of Chandrasekhar Dasgupta

Thoroughly researched, the book reveals, with documentary evidence, the sordid story of the first war over Kashmir. It is a gripping tome difficult to put away, and yet one tends to do so repeatedly out of sheer disgust it produces for the then Indian leadership. By its sheer ineptitude and naiveté, it allowed a sore to fester that eventually became a full-blown cancer, making the nation pay a heavy price in the shape of thousands of precious lives and billions of rupees.

MP bureaucray in a quandary

The bureaucratic fraternity in Madhya Pradesh is caught in a catch 22 position.Reason for this is an invite from BJP petrel Uma Bharti who is BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate.Bharti has invited the state bureaucracy with their wives,over dinner to celebrate the Dussehra on October 6,2003.Her presumption seems to be that she is surely going to sit on the Chief Minister's"gaddi"after two months.If sources close Chief Minister Digvijay Singh are to be believed then a word has been sent across to the entire fraternity to refrain from the event to be held in Hotel Lake View Ashok.However,it is uncertain that how many would attend the dinner with their spouses.

SP suspended DM shifted
