Second powerful contender for the post is Satish Chandra Chaubey. 1966 batch UP cadre IAS officer Chaubey is currently DG CRPF.In case Home Minister L K Advani and Cabinet Secretary Kamal Pande fail to push the candidature of Ajay Raj Sharma their second choice would be Chaubey.Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is also said to have soft corner for him. A decision of the Karnataka IAS Association

Moved by the suffering of the people in the drought affected parts of the state,Karnataka IAS Association's
Executive Committtee took a bold decision. It decided, suo motto, that all officers shall contribute one day's salary for the next 6 months. Those that do not want to do their mite can write and ask the pay disbursing officer not to deduct the pay. This is pro-active behaviour in the best sense of the term. When government took a similar decision about all government employees, they refused to obey, saying such deduction was unwarranted and unconstitutional. But the IAS have no such options! Failure to pay up will result in gradings like "Average" or "Below Average" in the ACR. In the IAS, discretion has always been the better part of valour.

Kya IAS ko Neta aukat dikha sakta hein?

Grapevine has it that there is a concentrated and rigorous effort by the Mayor of Patiala Municipal Corporation, Vishnu Sharma to toy and play havoc in the governance procedures overlooked by 1988 batch Punjab Cadre officer, Sanjay Kumar.Rumour mill has it that right since day one, Sanjay Kumar, Municipal Commisioner Patiala, had the audacity of not letting mayor Vishnu Sharma, have his impious and heinous ways in the Patiala Municipal Corporation. And did he have to pay a major price for his uprighteousness??Whispers has it that though Sanjay Kumar had been handpicked by Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh for Patiala, but he had been an eye sore for Vishnu Sharma and his brigade of councilors right from day one, as Kumar wouldn't let Sharma et al sound their own bugle. This led to a major relief and respite for the citizens of Patiala who had been sick of the corrupt practices prevailing in the municipal corporation of Patiala.Consequently, it is rumoured, that the local politicians spearheaded a whisper campaign against Kumar, and gossip has it that they went up to the
extent of saying that the able bureaucrat would be taught a lesson. It is alleged that the local councillors had also pronounced that "Ek IAS ko sirf Neta hi aukaat dikha sakta hain."What a shameful way of belittling the integrity and subsistence of a senior bureaucrat. For how long would bureaucrats in India be subject to such cheap,
despicable and contemptible behaviour of shoddy politicians?? Would Chief Ministers of their respective states look into the fact and try to ensure that able and proficient bureaucrats are not run down by the vested interests of ignominious local politicians ?.
