T K A Nair has been appointed Principal Secretary to new Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.1963 batch retired Punjab cadre IAS officer Nair was Chairman of the PESB prior to this assignment.

I must say that today I feel proud that the two highest offices in our country have luminaries who are thorough bred professionals, men of reputation and integrity. It is a salute to the great intellectual traditions of our country as also an indicator of the rich human resource that we have. The prospect of having people in high offices who are not well qualified or deserving is frightening. Both PM designate Dr. Manmohan Singh & President Dr. Kalam are men of knowledge and integrity. Kalam is the leading scientist that we have ever produced and Dr Singh is our leading economist. Both are simple men and both lead by example. It is a great moment in our administrative history.
