After being posted with approval of both CVC and ACC just three months back, she has suddenly been shifted as Joint Secretary in the Commission for rehabilitation of Small Scale Industries under the Department of SSI by the same ACC ! Why a heavyweight IPS officer R K Singh of HP cadre working as Deputy Commissioner of Civil Aviation Security wants the post of CVO in AAI. He has backing from the very top. So ACC headed by PM had no choice but to reverse its own decision. However, will the CVC oblige? CVC has in the past never agreed to post CVOs who are backed by politicians and come with recommendations. We can only wait and see.

Ex Secretary Revenue on present Revenue Secretary

I missed the earlier exchanges on this topic. As a former Revenue Secretary I thought I could add my two bits to the debate.
I personally do not know Chadrashekhar. But I believe he has a very good track record and there is no reason to believe that he will not be able to do an excellent job in the present assignment. He has diverse experience especially in the field of foreign trade. There is no mystique about fiscal policy, which should be beyond Chandrashekhar's capability to deal with. Trade and fiscal policy have a symbiotic link and being and expert in Trade matters he will surely be able to grapple with fiscal issues with comparative ease.
Further, strictly speaking fiscal policy is the domain of Secretary Deptt. of Economic Affairs. The Revenue Secy's main brief is to oversee all matters related to budgeting and collection of direct and indirect taxes. He has the experts in CBDT and CBEC to advise him on technical matters. He should surely be able to provide the leadership needed to ensure optimization of collection of Central revenues, once he has found his feet in the Finance Ministry.
