NEED FOR A NOAH
Tha the government of Maharashtra has badly let down
the people of the great city of Mumbai during the
recent deluge cannot be denied. The least that it
could have done is to alert the people to the dangers
of travelling back home on Tuesday. It clearly
demonstrates that Mumbai certainly
cannot be administered, anymore, at the official
level by untrained generalists , from the IAS and the
State Civil Service. It needs a modern metropolis
managerial cadre and under a strong leader, an
empowered mayor with a personality like Kenneth
Livingstone of London. One size fits all is the bane
of our administrative structure. It is not clear how
long are the citizens to pay the prize for suffering
this diletantism, imposed by the vested interests of
the inveterate positio seeking IAS.
Yours truly
R.Sundaram
