PESB's snub to Railway Ministry

PESB has strongly objected to blatant attempts by the Railway Board to manipulate the selection for the post of MD/IRCTC by restricting the post to IRTS cadre. In its directive to the Railway Board, it has asked for the post to be kept open to all railway services and that ACC's approval for deputation be obtained before re-circulation. We had on August 12 highlighted the issue and PESB has responded efficiently and commendably. Justice has prevailed.

Will the ACC cancel IA CMDs appointment ?

ACC has reportedly questioned the appointment of Ms Sushma Chawla as CMD of Indian Airlines and sought the explanation of Ministry of Civil Aviation as to how a person unqualified under the rules and not possessing the requisite experience etc was appointed and that too without ACC approval. Ms Chawala was not even a Director on IAL Board at the time of her appointment. ACC is apparently in no mood to clear this particular appointment !

A day before Independence Day, the who's who of India and the State of Uttaranchal arrived in Dehradun. The venue was the sylvan surroundings of Tel Bhavan, ONGC and the event was the launching of the Golden Jubilee Year by His Excellency the President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mani Shankar Aiyar, the Governor of Uttaranchal and the Chief Minister of Uttaranchal attended the magnificent ceremony. The President laid a floral wreath at the ONGC memorial and also inaugurated the ONGC Golden Jubilee museum. In a glittering function in the afternoon the President of India congratulated ONGC on its ensuring energy security to the Nation. Referring to Subir Raha, C&MD of ONGC as his 'friend', President Kalam won the hearts of all ONGCians with his charm. In his address Mani Shankar called Raha his 'good friend' and 'visionary leader'. And 37,000 ONGCians acknowledged this well deserved accolade. This also created a stir in the press core, which was seen, in great attendance at the venue. It was time Raha got his due as a leader who has turned the fortunes of ONGC and has taken ONGC to greater heights.
