Can Chandan Roy make to top in NTPC ?

Chandan Roy, Director in NTPC is yet another candidate appearing in the interview for the post of CMD, NTPC with the blessings of a top functionary in the Power Ministry. His main hurdle is T. Sankaralingam, the senior most Director. Sankaralingam could not make it to NHPC where he was No.2 in the panel though
his name was recommended by the Ministry of Power. SC Sharma, No.1 in the panel has filed a writ petition in the Court thwarting Ministry of Power's attempt to bypass him.

Power sector watchers however do not rule out the possibility of Chandan Roy making to the top keeping
in view the past appointments in the power sector.SK Chaturvedi was No. 2 in the panel for the NHPC's
Director(Personnel) post. However, he was successful in getting Vinod Gulati No. 1 candidate eliminated. The logic given was that Gulati does not have the relevant experience even though Gulati had been working in NHPC for twenty five years looking after Human Resource Development, Information Technology, Administration, etc. Recently Shrivastava, Executive Director(Engineering) was shortlisted for the post of Director(Personnel) in NTPC bypassing very senior Personnel professionals like GK Agarwal. Therefore, power watchers are keeping their fingers crossed about NTPC Chief's interview. If Power Secretarry Shahi has his way, Chandan Roy should be donning the cap of NTPC boss. Time to watch this most prestigeous appointment of the power sector.

NHPC Officers are happy with Shahi

NHPC Officer's Association (NOA) wishes to inform that the contents of this information are malafide and have been distorted by some vested interests. As far as 4 % increment is concerned, it is true that the same is pending before NHPC management since a long time and there is resentment among the officers on this account. This has been taken up with NHPC management and MOP a number of times. However, as far as shutting down of power stations is concerned NOA wants to make it clear that this action was not resorted to even in 1994. Furthermore, NOA does not propose to do it now as Nation is first priority of NOA and there is no confusion in this regard. NHPC Executives have never gone to streets against MOP as suggested by your report. Further, we want to clarify that NOA is not dependent on individuals to run its activities. Also, it needs a mention that NOA is a democratically elected body and does not require any individual to guide it or to lead us or mislead it. NOA is capable of handling its issues very effectively.
As far as protesting against Sh. Shahi, Union Power Secretary, is concerned we have no such issue before us as we feel that issue of 4% increment is well within the competency of NHPC Board and they have to resolve it.
