Indian Airlines rating declines

Indian Airlines rating in the domestic market is said to have declined by a whopping 28 per cent which is an all time low. Who is responsible for it?

REC gets five CMDs in thirty moths

REC was loaded with as many as five Chairmen in the last thirty months. All of them were IAS officers waiting
for their regular postings in various Ministries of the Union Government. None of them was appointed through
the Public Enterprises Selection Board.

REC is a schedule A Corporation. The annual budget runs into more than 15,000 crores. The Corporation is
responsible for electrification of villages in the country. As on date, still more than one lakh villages are to be
connected to electricity poles.

Frequent changes of the head of the Organization has resulted in no accountability in plan after plan slippage in
target. Now the Government has announced that all the villages will be electrified by 2009. Earlier NDA Govt. had declared that rural electrification will be completed by 2007. The present government has launched Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Viduatikaran Yojana. According to power sector sources, the scheme is far behind schedule. Even where electrification has been done, electricity is available to the villages only after 10.00 P.M.

Power sector watcher feel that the Government should immediately discard the present system of ad hoc
posting of IAS officers to head the REC. The selection of a professional should be done through the PESB as is
being done in the case of other Schedule A enterprises in the sector.
