US suppliers providing spare parts to Indian Airlines have reportedly not been paid for long. Will it not affect the functioning ?

J&K Government to ask for Salal Power Plant

The Congress led Government in Jammu & Kashmir will again be approaching the Union Government to transfer on permanent basis 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Power Plant of NHPC to the State Government. Several attempts have been made by the State Government for the transfer of Salal Power Plant In the last few years.
The new Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, is likely to pull all his resources to grab this prestigious project from the Centre. He will have the backing of the Central leadership. If successful, Congress will get big boost in the State.
The State Government's contention is that the transfer will largely help the State in tiding over the financial crisis it is faced with. Moreover, NHPC has already recovered the cost of the Project and therefore should have no difficulty in handing over the project to the State Government.
Salal project has been set up by the NHPC and 12 per cent free power is given to the State Government. The move of the State Government has been repeatedly resisted by the NHPC Management in the last few years. However, since there is no full time CMD of the Corporation and the Government Directors on the Board of NHPC are too strong, any opposition of the demand is unlikely.
In case Salal is given to the J&K, similar demands are likely to crop up in Manipur, Sikkim, Uttranchal and Himachal Pradesh where NHPC has operational power Stations.
With the CMD and Director(Projects) not in position and other functional Directors new to the hydro sector, uncertainty is prevailing in the Corporation. The Corporation is likely to miss the target of capacity addition and funds utilization for the 10th Plan period. Silent moves are also going on to revive the NTPC bid to take over the NHPC. Things are certainly bad for this premier hydro utility.
