An ex-IAS officer who is currently in the World Bank in Washington DC is reported to have written a detailed letter to the EO with a copy of it to the Joint Secretary (Fund Bank) with names of 28 IAS officers. All these IAS officers according to the ex-IAS have been working in the World Bank without proper permission. Will the DoPT take action against them?, the officer has reportedly asked in the letter.

The latest news that the Government is considering to give two year extension to CP Jain, CMD, NTPC, is yet another example of the Ministry of Power's unsuccessful attempts to get extension to its retiring chief executives. It all started with Rajinder Singh, the then CMD of NTPC followed by M.A. Khan, CMD, Power Finance Corporation, then Yogendra Prasad, CMD, NHPC and now CP Jain, NTPC. All the attempts of the Power Ministry were rejected by the PMO. It is doubtful whether CP Jain will be able to make an exception. Yogendra Prasad pulled all pressure during the NDA Government and the Present Government but failed. He tried for a two-year reappointment. That proposal was also rejected.
This is not the end of the story. HL Bajaj, Chairman, CEA was appointed to the powerful Tribunal in the last month of his service. A.K. Basu, immediately on retirement joined as Chairman of CERC. All members of CERC are retired persons from the Power sector. Even the DERC has been loaded with the retired persons like Krishnamurti, Chairman, PFC.
As on date there is no regular chairman of CEA and NHPC.
Technocrats in NTPC are waiting with fingers crossed about the next move of the Government. It is more than fifteen years that an internal technocrat was able to make it to the No.I position in NTPC. Director(Finance) and Director (Personnel) have been doning the chair.
