In Haryana, Governor to review ACRs

Now the Governor in Haryana would be able to review the annual confidential reports (ACRs) of all-India services officers. Written by the Chief Minister, ACRs of these officials till now were being assessed by a Cabinet subcommittee. The state government's order empowering the Governor to do so is seen as a step towards institutionalising the system of reviewing the ACRs of all-India services officers

Army appointments

Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman, presently the Western Army Commander is approved to be the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff with effect from October 1. He is to take over from Lt Gen BS Thakur on his retirement.
Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, presently Army Commander at the Training Command, Shimla is transferred and posted as Northern Army Commander. He will succeed Lt Gen Hari Prasad.

The Government has also approved the promotion of Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, presently GOC of a Corps in the North East as Army Commander.

Lt Gen KS Jamwal, presently Chief of Staff, Army Training Command, Shimla will take over as the Army Commander of the Training Command with effect from October 1.. He will take over the vacancy arising on retirement of Lt Gen BS Thakur..

It's all ONGC politics

Times of India reported on 1st September that "whispers in the corridors" of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas indicate that Raha, C&MD of ONGC has now been "cornered". According to newsinsight.net (30.12.2004) the cornering began much earlier when 'petroleum secretary SC Tripathi was heard by other officials saying "Raha ko jute ki nok pe rakhna hai"''.
Tripathi is reputed to be a tough administrator who got his joint secretary to threaten the Governing Body of IIM Ahmedabad with supersession. He has now got another joint secretary to threaten Raha to settle the issue of appointing five Government directors on the ONGC Board "once for all". From Murli Monohar Joshi to Mani Shanker Aiyer, Tripathi does not tolerate any nonsense by any Chairman.
Raha is equally reputed to be arrogant, running ONGC the way he wants whether the Minister is Ram Naik or Mani Shanker Aiyer. In the process, he had survived a murder attempt in August 2003, after the Bombay High helicopter crash. Will he survive the attempt to sack him?
