IMAGINARY INTERVIEW WITH BUTA SINGH

I am in the loo of a Hotel in Patna and suddenly I find the loo teeming with security personnel and behind them in walks Buta Singh. He takes his position to relieve himself. We both land up at the washbasins together and while washing our hands we strike a conversation.

Me: Good morning Buta Singh Ji.
Buta: Good morning……… are you here too to attend the marriage???
Me: No ….
Buta: Marriages are so boring……except if it is your own marriage…….I am so hungry and they've still not even laid the table!!!
Me: Sir if you are bored and hungry why don't you pop into the Coffee Shop with me and give yours very truly an interview!!!
Buta: Journalist ho ……which paper……. what is your name???
Me: Sir I am not a journalist……just do this as a hobby….. the interview will appear on www.whispersinthecorriodrs.com……. and my name is Bharat Kumar!!!!
Buta: Oye….. Laloo has told me about you…….yaar tuh teh Laloo de pichche hath doh ke peh gaya hai (Punjabi for haath doh ke peeche padna….. you've got after Laloo)!!!
Me: Not only me ……he is the darling of the media……clown act!!!
Buta: Mainoo wi badha hassanda hai Laloo ( Laloo makes me laugh too)…chalo ji I'll give you an interview and we'll have something to eat at the same time!!!

We enter the Coffee Shop and take a table in one corner. The Menus arrive and Buta orders a Grilled Sandwich and a Cold Coffee with Sugarfree replacing the sugar. I order tea.

Me: What is this controversy about Raj Bhavan asking the Traffic Police for cars for a marriage in Raj Bhavan???
Buta: Oh….ki bakwaas hai……. you see Traffic Police have a lot of impounded cars and my people thought that the Police would send these cars…… we did not expect the police to requisition private cars….but anyway we are going to pay for the requisitioned cars!!
Me: Rs. 300……. just pittance……can I requisition your car and pay you the same amount???
Buta: What a joke!!!
Me: Three hundred bucks for a luxury car with a driver….. do you know the going rate is about Rs. 1500 plus petrol for only eight hours???
Buta: Chadho ji…… if the owners are not cribbing why are you???
Me: Yes they are not cribbing because they cannot make enemies with the crocodile in the pond!!!!

The food and beverages are served. The General Manager arrives and asks Buta if everything is to his satisfaction and Buta , his mouth full, just nods his head and waives him away.

Me: Even SC is doubting the reasons you have cited for dissolving the Bihar Assembly!!!
Buta: Suitcases were flying left and right in Patna…….my son Lovely went to buy a suitcase and could not get one in the entire city of Patna!!!!
Me: But still this is not clear evidence!!!
Buta: Oh jee …….. my dreams always come true….that night I dreamt that Nitish was moving about in a truck loaded with suitcases …….. and behind the truck was a luxury bus in which the bought MLAs would sit down after receiving one bag!!!!
Me: So you dissolved the House based on a dream???
Buta: Buta da sapna hai koi mazzak nahi…….. and based on my dream I had the CID do some investigation !!!
Me: And what did they find!!!!
Buta: That LJP MLAs were ready to jump boat!!!
Me: But that was bound to happen……LJP is not a alliance based on any ideology….it is a alliance for power and when they saw they could get power by joining NDA they must have decided to split for LJP!!!!
Buta: But what about the suitcases????
Me: Well people say that both your sons have been sending suitcase after suitcase to Delhi and they caused the shortage!!!
Buta: What are you saying…..my Sweety is a lovely fellow and Lovely is a sweety…… both are involved in Social Work in Patna and they collect old clothes etc., for the poor in Delhi!!!!
Me: Arre Buta ji ….this is like the Ganga flowing ulta……. I feel old clothes etc., should come from Delhi for the poor in Patna!!!
Buta: Then that may be the case…….. they must be receiving the stuff from Delhi and packing it in suitcases for distribution!!!
Me: But why pack old clothes in suitcases???
Buta: Arr bhai packaging ka zamaana hai!!!
Me: Wah Buta Singh Ji!!!
Buta: Oh thank you jee!!!

Buta is still hungry and orders an Aaloo Chat and I ask for some more tea.

Me: Now the perception is that you are no longer a Congressman but Laloo's man!!!
Buta: I am unofficially Congress's Ambassador to Bihar and I have to keep in touch with the locals!!!
Me: But with Laloo it is more than keep in touch….. they feeling is you do his bidding!!
Buta: Lies….. I never demand any bidding……. ask Laloo!!!
Me: You've misunderstood …… I said that you obey Laloo's orders!!!
Buta: Not at all……. today the thing is that what is good for Laloo is also good for Congress!!!!
Me: So you want to do good for Congress….but aren't Governors supposed to be impartial or unbiased????
Buta: Were any of the British Governor Generals impartial …they always sided with the British….. Governor is an English word and so I follow what the English did!!!

Buta has finished his snack and orders for a cup of tea.

Me: What will happen if the SC finds the dissolution of the House as unfounded and biased ???
Buta: My SC is Sonia's Court and as long as this Court is happy with me nothing else matters!!!
Me: And what is Sonia's Court's opinion????
Buta: (looking at his watch) …….Arre bhaut time ho gayaa hai …..I must get back to the marriage!!
Me: Before you go tell me one thing wouldn't it be right that if SC finds the dissolution of Bihar Assembly as wrong and overturns your verdict then you should resign????
Buta: Simple……I will ask Sonia for an appointment and if she gives me one then I will continue and if she refuses to meet me then I will resign!!!

Buta shakes my hand and goes. I call for the Bill and settle it. The General Manager of the Hotel comes up to me.

GM: Sir I had come to request Buta Singh Ji that yesterday from the Hotel Parking the Traffic Police requisitioned my car and if he could do something about this!!!
Me: Yes I've heard of this….don't worry your car will come back in a couple of days!!!
GM: Car is not the problem Sir……my wife was driving the car and now she is driving Buta's guests all over Patna!!!
