Grapevine has it that RAW Chief, P K Harmese Tharakan, is getting another three months extension.1968 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer, Tharakan, is scheduled to complete his term on September 30. Reason is obvious.

Income Tax Department and TamilNadu

Elections are round the corner in TamilNadu and the bigger casualty is Income-Tax Department. The Finance Minister and the Minister of State are sworn enemies of TamilNadu Chief Minister and they reportedly want action against Jayalalitha & Co. IT Commissioner dealing with Jayalalitha cases, P K Vijay Kumar, was transferred to Kolkata in July 2004.His boss, B Ravibalan, DG Investigation was transferred out and posted to a lesser important post. Surprisingly, Vijay Kumar's transfer was cancelled after two months and he was reinstated in the same post. Meanwhile,review meetings were held to know the progress in the prosecution cases and other tax matters of Jayalalitha.The new DGIT P K Sreedharan also failed to rise upto the expectation.He was also shifted and an officer from Bangalore was posted in July. Meanwhile, P K Vijay Kumar was again transferred to Kolkata in February 2005 -his crime was he did favours to Jayalalitha. The minister of State reportedly shouted at S K Iyer for having raided a college in Chennai. Ravibalan was shunted out to Kerala. Naresh Kumar, DI Investigations, brought in just three months back has now been sent to Kolkata. Why C Rajendran, CCIT Coimbatore, was moved to Hubli ?.The officer knows the reason. Now the officers are being threatened with transfer to toe the line of the political bosses. Recently K Subramaniam, Member of the Settlement Commission - Chennai, has been denied promotion and threatened with a transfer to Kolkata. There is a talk of more transfers in Chennai to bring in the blue eyed boys of the Minister and the Minister of State,

Who will win Minister of Cabinet Secretary ?

Tourism Minister Ms Renuka Chaudhry is reportedly at logger heads over ITDC Chairman appointment with the Cabinet Secretary.While the former wants that either the present Chairman should continue or some professional be posted on the coveted post, the Cabinet Secretariat has sent a panel of three IAS officiers and asked for the appointment in a fortnight from now. According to informed sources the panel consists of N C Goel 1982 batch Rajasthan,Parvez Dewan 1977 batch J& K and Rajiv Takru 1979 batch Gujarat.
