Virtually all comments pasted in this space have been virulently anti IAS.These only reflects deep seated bias, perhaps born out of envy,which is not unnatural when it comes from non achievers passing judgement on those who have succeeded.
It needs to be iterated that since independence the IAS has attracted to its fold the top ranked candidates from the Civil service examinations. The other services have had to make do only with the rest.
The best talent has thereafter the opportunity to serve in various assignments at the field, stae Govt. and Central Secretariat formations. Some have opportunities to work in PSUs at State and Cebtral levels.No other service offers such varied opportunities, in the arena of public service, for its members to hone their skills in in the service of the nation.
Central services are unifunctional in nature and the expertise gained by members of these services is of little relevance in handling matters, say in the Central Govt. Of what use is experience in the Income tax deptt.,for instance, for dealing with work relating to Rural Development,Steel, Mines , Coal or Industrial Development, or for Energy sector, Agricultural Development, Commerce or, for that matter, Education and Health ?
It is only the IAS ,which gives the opportunity to work in these diverse areas, at all levels, from the district to the state and central govt.
However, members of IAS are also part of the society and many of them are subject to the same failings as otheres in our society.Hence, we come across the black sheep, who are hauled up, now and then for corruption or such other misdemeanours.Such isolated cases should not be played up to tarnish the service, as a whole,because they are exceptions rather than the rule.
It neds to be remembered that it is the IAS which has held together the administrative machinery of the country together so that it continues to deliver on development and, by and large, remain responsive to the demands of public service.We have only to compare our situation, with Pakistan or Bangladesh, which made the mistake of abolishing their premier service and opted for a common civil service with severe deleterious consequeces for their administrations, which are in a shambles.

Mulayam tried to play down the tragedy!!!! Mulayam Government should be sacked for its 'Nero' attitude!!!

SP aka Spineless Party does not have a character!!! Whereas the Congress is INC…. Is Not Characterless!!! So in fact Congress is the looser!!! This deal was brokered by Surjeet after Mulayam raised the white flag , for obvious reasons…… SP was running out of ideas to character assassinate Congress…. and recently its character assassination of Congress blew up in its face….. was like spitting in the air!!! Congress has agreed because of the adage….. don't throw stones in muck because some muck may land up on you!!!!
