Army officials facing charges

It really is a welcome step, if the Officers of all the Group-A Services are taken on the posts of JS and above in the Government of India. A few years back, the Non-IAS Officers could not think of joining the Government of India even at Director and the Deputy secretary level. However their performance on these posts over last few years have shown that we cannot derive conclusions purely on the basis of an Officer belonging to a particular service. All should get equal chance to serve at all levels. Ultimately the purpose of entire Government set-up is to provide an efficient and effective administration to this country and not just to pamper any perticular service.

IMAGINARY INTERVIEW WITH JAYALALITHA

I am invited to Poes Garden to interview Jayalalitha aka Amma. At the appointed time I reach Poes Garden and am ushered into a room which has a sofa in one corner of the room and in the other corner is a Lazy Boy chair. The usher requests me to take a seat on the sofa. After some time Amma regally walks in and squeezes into the Lazy Boy chair.

Amma: I hope you've read the rules for interviewing me…. please be careful!!!
Me: Yes Madam….. I'll start by asking you as to what do you attribute AIADMK's loss??
Amma: My astrologer mislead me!!!
Me: So you must have taken your Astrologer to task!!
Amma: I'm a firm believer in destiny …. I was destined to loose and the Astrologer was destined to let me down!!!
Me: Before the elections you were very confident of winning…. in fact last time we spoke you were brimming with confidence…… in fact looking at your confidence I had predicted that your Party would win.
Amma: Generals go into battle claiming victory is in sight……had you consulted an Astrologer you wouldn't have been misled!!!! You must use Astrology to your advantage!!!
Me: Madam after what Astrology has done to you I'll prefer to stay away from Astrology!!!
Amma: Please refer to the rules .... point number 13.... no snide remarks.

An aide comes in with a huge mug and places it in front of Amma…. he holds a handkerchief to his face with one hand and with the other hand he places the mug devoutly in front of her. He exits the room and returns and places a Vati of Coffee in front of me…. its filter coffee and is excellent!!

Me: People say that three causes for your Party loosing the elections are…….. sacking of Sarkaari employees , banning conversions and making the Liquor trade a Sarkaari affair??
Amma: Sarkaari….. I don't understand this word!!!
Me: I'm sorry that's Government in Hindi!!
Amma: Please read the rules …. Point 7… no use of any other language except English……… I am surprised that the Government employees did not vote for AIADMK… prior to the elections I had my Ministers do a survey and they informed me that they had done surveys and these surveys showed that the Government employees were backing my Party!!!
Me: Madam when a Minister asks a Government employee which Party he or she will vote for , the employee will always say that he or she will vote for the ruling Party….. its common sense…. you also dismissed the road workers and then you reinstated them…..in fact your Government was called the 2 R Government 'remove and reinstate Government'!!!
Amma: Please refer to the rule…….. Point no 14……. no rude remarks!!!

Sasikala comes in and gives me a dirty look. She then takes Amma's BP and saying ' Aee Aee yo' she pulls a leaver on the Lazy Boy and makes the chair recline. She tells me that Amma's BP is high and that I'll have to wait for some time. After about half an hour Sasikala takes her BP and seems its normal because she brings the chair back to the original position and rudely orders me to continue with the interview!!!

Me: Okay what about the anti conversion Bill???
Amma: My cook of 40 years converted to Christianity .... however I was not irked by his converting to Christianity … what irked me was his demanding a holiday on Sunday… he said as per Christianity even God rests on Sunday…. If conversions continued this could mean that TN would come to a standstill on Sunday!!!!
Me: Then what made you retract this Bill???
Jaya: Well he agreed to get a replacement for Sunday…… and the replacement he got for Sunday was as good as him!!!
Me: Madam from what I hear you were cooking up something…. you wanted to please one strata of Society…. it was a calculated move!!!
Amma: Please refer to rules …. Point no.13…. no snide remarks!!!
Me: Okay Madam why did the Government take over the Liquor retail trade???
Amma: You see I wanted to enforce Prohibition through the back door. We are all aware that work in Government Offices moves at a snail's pace….. with Government employees manning the Liquor outlets I had calculated that it would take a tippler more than one hour to get a bottle of booze…… so in effect the sales would have fallen down !!
Me: Madam do you know that in DDA the most efficient employees are to be found in DDA's Liquor outlets…. in fact DDA posts its new recruits and employees who are found slacking into these Liquor outlets so that they can get a taste of efficiency!!!

A group of AIADMK Party workers have come to meet Amma. Men in white shirts and veshtis and extra black hair and moustaches are led in. They stand in a line in front of her and prostrate themselves in front of her and then they stand up and like a well rehearsed choir all start sobbing. Amma looks pan faced…. or should I say poker faced… after some time they are led out!!!

Me: Now what Madam???
Amma: Well I will not enter the TN House as long as Karunanidhi is the CM….. I think its time I moved to Delhi!!
Me: Isn't it the wrong time to do so…. you've just lost your base!!
Amma: I will enter the Rajya Sabha….. and I also plan to become a Leader on the National scene… Amar Singh has been in touch with me!!!!
Me: Madam now Amar Singh will not even take your calls…….. Amar Singh is a master opportunist!!!

Jaya asks one of her minions to dial Amar Singh's mobile number ….. he does so on the Speaker phone. The voice at the other end says that this number no longer exists. The minion tries the number 10 times with the same result.

Jaya: But he gave me this number and told me to contact him on this number.
Me: The rumour is that for every Political Party he has a separate number……seems he's disconnected the number he had allocated to your Party!!!
Me: Madam aren't you worried that Karunandhi would go in for tit for tat….. get you lifted and put in jail???
Amma: He will not be able to get me lifted…… since the elections were announced I've doubled my weight…….and as long as he cannot get me lifted by the Lady constables from TN police how can it be tit for tat????

Its time to go as Sasikala has come in and wants Amma to rest.

Me: One last question you promised gold coins and DMK TVs…… what does this mean???
Amma: All that glitters in not gold… and TVs are also know as Idiot Boxes!!!!
