BIG STAKE FOR CUSTOMS OFFICERS IN BEING METRO-CENTRIC IN THEIR CAREER

Apart from so many others, there is definitely one thing which is very
much at stake for Customs and Excise officers from attempting to be
"Metro-centric" in their career postings and that is "foreign
postings". The "Metro-centric" officers are able to "manage" foreign postings as they are the ones who catch the eye of the CBEC Members and not the others posted in other non Metro stations. Currently, out of 9 Group 'A' Customs officers posted abroad, 7 have never been posted in Class 'B' or Class 'C' cities and towns in twenty or more years of their career. (Check their record of postings) Under the Transfer Policy too, an officer's posting abroad is to be counted as a posting in a Metro. Why is the Board cultivating a breach of its own Policy by posting officers from Metros abroad? Historically also, this has been the tradition that the Board has encouraged. Even the IAS and IPS officers who get foreign postings have done some stint in a small district town or Class 'B' and Class 'C' posting but not so for Customs and Excise. One more officer whose name was mentioned on this website last week and is predicted to get a posting in Brussels in two months, has been in Metros for almost 80 per cent of his career and certainly for the last 12 years at a stretch. (Check the record of postings) Is this not a big stake for trying to always remain posted in the Metros and not be posted in a Class 'B' or Class 'C' city?
