Government to kindly transfer back tax policy powers to CBEC. Central Excise exemptions of RS.40000 crores per annum are given to Himachal and Uttaranchal but no industry is passing on the benefit to ultimate customer. RS.126000 crores is doled out in SEZ for customs excise exemptions and already some SEZ advertising in ECONOMIC times for sale of permissions for trading whereas who will fulfill export obligations and who will catch them. Rs.238000 crores is given by DGFT commerce ministry every year as sops for exports in form of DEPB, DEEC , Drawback etc schemes. The tax administrators in CBEC are not aware. Probationers are told by FM that IRS customs is a shameless service. In such case why to recruit officers ? Let us stop like appraisers are stopped for recruitment. We can promote inspector to be promoted upto chief commissioner rank as was done in pre independence. JS TRU can put up files to finance advisor, revenue secretary, MOS and FM for tax policy as is done now. JS admn and secretary revenue can transfer officers with FM approval. Fourth estate describes IRS customs as 'petty babus' one can see clearly that except adverse publicity nothing they get. How many IRS customs officers or their spouses have contested as MP, MLA. But see IRS Income tax, IAS, IPS, IRTS. Have they fought elections on salary? IRS customs officers are haunted in 1993 blast. Why no investigation done on officers role in 7/11 blasts. Is it Home secretary protecting IPS officers . Why foreign secretary fail to brief Home secretary about involvement of IAS, IPS officers in borders in Kashmir infiltrations? IRS customs collects revenue at 0.68 percent cost and all other departments collect at more than 3 percent . With out tax policy work CBEC members are busy in destroying officers in the placement committee. Due to sudden shift of officers sural fake rebates, transfer of customs duties to private accounts in Delhi is happening with superintendent connivance. Please give back tax policy powers to CBEC to prevent Financial emergency in this country as what to tax when to tax where to tax and how to tax is known only to experienced tax administrators not arm chair intellectuals turned economist and advocate turned politicians

CBEC is most neglected lot
IRS Customs and Excise is the most neglected lot. It is a fact that the working conditions are far from satisfactory. Even the officers of the rank of Commissioners are not allowed official mobile phones, though being a regulatory and operational service, this is the basic requirement. Income tax has issued the orders for all Commissioners to have official mobiles with handsets bought by the Department. In the State Government, very basic level of officers have official mobiles. The cost is very meager but adds to the grace and accessibility. This must not have come to the notice of the very progressive and efficient Chairman, and your esteemed columns would surely see a result within a week.

IRS cadre is de-moralised
This is apropos to the message posted by Ravi Chandran. Without sounding personal, it is mentioned that Members of both the Boards have never gone out on deputation. That is why they do not realize that without the name being called the officer has absolutely no chances of making the grade. This is true for even the IAS which manages to corner most of the posts due to their superior networking. Perhaps the Members in both the Boards need to realize that what damage they are bringing upon their own service. The cadre which is mandated to collect revenue today is de-moralized and de-motivated. It does not need knowledge of rocket science to realize this.

SEZs …… Chinese Model!!!! But India may be replicating China in SEZs but what about the reasons that make SEZ successful!!! Rupee cannot compete with the Yuan in cheapness and Indian Labor Laws are not what exist in China!!! With some many SEZs coming up occupation is going to be very low!!! SEZs are bogies without a track or an engine!!!! And what about the Farmers and the huge dent in agricultural land!!! SEZ……. Stupidly Envisaged Zones!!!!

Looking at Akali Dal's bright prospects in the coming elections there is a clamor for Akali Dal tickets. Nobody is clamoring for Congress tickets….. in fact by the looks for its it's just the opposite when it comes to Congress!!!! Fact of the matter is that now Amrinder is trying to malign Badal and Akali Dal!!!! For him it's a do or die situation……. just the thought of Badal returning to power gives Amrinder the shivers!!!
