Lagey Raho Munnai Bhai

I recollect a scene from the movie 'Lagey Raho Munna Bhai' where this old man is removing all his clothes to meet the demand of a corrupt official. If you draw a parallel of this scene to the nation at large, you realize that we the bureaucrats along with our netas are almost giving the same treatment to our poor nation. Mud slinging on each other has no meaning. Some day we must reason to get above our parochial identities to think for the nation as a whole.

The FORUM column of your site makes an incomplete reading. There should be some way to refer to the earlier views/ contribution. For, example in this posting by Raj, it is difficult to know as to what Mrs. Aarti Khosla said earlier.
THIRSTY FOR WHISPERS
Do not use word "luminaries " for IAS
I am surprised that website like yours are using the word "luminaries". Let me remind you that they are just IAS who are supposed to work and take a salary. I think the word luminary is used in a wrong way and the word looses its gravity by using in this context. Let me tell you names of certain luminaries that India has as of now: 1. Amartya Sen
2. Manmohan Singh, Hon.PM
3. Pandit Ravi Shankar
4. Dr. Kalam, Hon. President OF india. The list is endless.
Can you name a single IAS who can be compared with them.

Pankaj

There is another IAS family

This is not a solitary case. One Mr. Gautam joined P.C.S. and retired as an I.A.S. officer. He had three daughters Usha, Jyotsna and Rajni. All three got into the I.A.S. They were all married to I.A.S. officers, Usha To N.N. Vohra, Jyotsna to N.N. Khanna and Rajni to Anil Razdan. The first two couples made it to Secretary to Government of India. Then there are the Ojha brothers. R.P. Ojha retired as Chief Secretary Punjab, B.S.Ojha as Chief Secretary Haryana and the youngest V.N. Ojha has Chief Secretary's rank in Punjab. I am sure there will be more such cases in other cadres and states. It is good to display such cases on your site so that they serve as role models.

Aaj Ki Aawaz

For Farmers Pawar is demanding low interest loans,
Hope he can hear the Aam Aadmi's moans!!!

At Congress conclave Congress CMs have been told to give agriculture priority…..but the Cabinet Agriculture Minister is sleeping and that is the pity!!! Pawar is now in a clarifying mode……. he's trying his level best to deflect the blame. He met Sonia before the conclave and explained his position!! But despite all the technical jargon and past record prepared by his Ministry fact remains that Pawar is a total failure as a Cabinet Minister and but for Coalition compulsions Pawar would have got the boot!!! They call BJP the Middleman's Party but today Pawar is proving to be the Middle Man's darling…. importers and hoarders are the happiest….. Pawar Sahib ki Jai is on their lips!!!!

There is no doubt majority minority should not be targeted for acts of terror,
But treating them with kid's gloves is an error!!!

Today the investigation Agencies have their hands tied because of this Government's appeasement Policy!!! While fighting terror this Government should keep religion at bay!!! A good example to follow would be the Singapore Model!!!! There are Muslims in India who are pro Pakistan and such people have no place in India!!!! And there is no doubt that India is on the terror map and we should be prepared for attacks!!! Please do be alert all the time…… prevention is the only cure as we now live in a very dangerous World!!!

Why was Amrinder carrying a Tourister Bag at the Conclave????
Did he plan to put it in front of his mug so that apna face karr sakke save???

Amrinder has done in Punjab where agriculture and SEZs are concerned!!! Its now well known that Punjab Sarkaar is the biggest Land Grabber!!! Amrinder has literally brought Punjab to its knees….. corruption , min-governance and wrong priorities have made the Amrinder tenure a nightmare for Punjab!!! The Rs. 3000 crore City Center scandal shows the level of corruption…….. Amrinder blamed Badal for making Rs.3500 crores in his tenure as CM … well in the alleged City Center scandal it is alleged that Raninder and his associates have pocketed Rs. 3000 crores in just one deal!!! Recently he had Veterinary Students flogged by his 'Gestapo' ……. now the 'Gestapo' have apologized……abh Punjab ka Hitler kyaa karrega????

Without dropping a single bomb Bush could have taken Pakistan back to the stone age,
We could have lent him Laloo and a bomb-less war Bush karr saktha thaa wage!!!

See what Laloo did to Bihar……… we could have lent Laloo to USA in our new environ of Indo- US Cooperation and Laloo would have achieved in no time what a hundred bombs could not achieve!!! All that was needed to be done was let Laloo loose in Pakistan!!!! And if faster results were required Laloo's circus should have been let loose with Laloo in Pakistan….. apart from Laloo's immediate family, circus includes his three Saalas!!!

Sharukh Khan exposed his own kids to second hand smoke,
Amir Khan wants our kids to drink Coke!!!

Sharukh Khan can do what he wants with his family…. that is his business!!!! He smoked all these years and now for his kids wants to give up smoking… that's his business!!! But he's absolutely wrong when he tries to fight the Government's efforts to stop other Fathers from smoking or taking up smoking!!! In films they do show a lot of wrong things……. but apart from smoking and drinking the acts shown are not addictive!!! And Amir Khan now wants Indian kids to remain addicted to Colas. Well his kids are the luckiest because they are not going to follow their Dad, they look at him as a ditcher, and so will do exactly opposite of what he says!!!

TOP BRASS

The National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC)is poised to take a quantum leap in the power sector by almost doubting its power generation capacity from existing 26,194 MW to 51,000 + MW Company by the year 2012.Even the NTPC is going to make forays into coal mining sector.
These views were expressed in a free and frank interview to "whispersinthecorridors.com"by NTPC chief T Sankaralingam.

Here is his interview

Questionnaire from 'Whispers'

Q.1 What are your expansion plans?

Ans. Today, NTPC is a 26,194 MW Company (including 1054 MW in joint ventures) and has been working towards achieving the target of additional 3210 MW during the current financial year.
We plan to add 21, 941 MW during the 11th Plan which would make us a 51,000 + MW Company by the year 2012. This amounts to nearly doubling our capacity by the year 2012. We also have plans to become a 75,000 + MW Company by the year 2017.
This will include hydro capacity of about 9,000 MW by the year 2017. Nuclear power generation is also being considered as a long-term option and we are looking at this option seriously.
Our strategy for capacity addition will include expanding the existing stations, developing greenfield projects and bidding for projects under the competitive route.
We are diversifying and expanding our business by way of backward and forward integration such as coal mining, coal washery, fuel sourcing, power trading, etc. covering the entire energy value-chain.
The Government of India has allocated 8 coal mine blocks to NTPC, 2 of them to be developed through JVs with Coal India Ltd. By 12th Plan period, we expect to meet nearly 20 to 25% of the coal requirement from the Company's own mines. Thus, NTPC is poised to become the second largest coal producer in the country, next to Coal India Ltd.

NTPC has won an oil/gas exploration field in Arunachal Pradesh in partnership with Canaro Resources & Geo Petrol under NELP Round V through competitive bidding. The production sharing agreement with the Government of India has been signed. Encouraged by this success, we have decided to bid under NELP Round VI. Acquisition of oil/gas exploration blocks will further strengthen the fuel security and economics of our operations.

Q.2 What is your view about the nuclear power? How will thermal power match cost effectiveness vis-à-vis the nuclear power?

Ans. Nuclear is, in fact, one of the conventional sources of power and countries like France have over 70% of their power generation coming from the nuclear source. Some other countries have substantial share of their power generated from the nuclear source. India is also planning to increase the share of nuclear power in its power mix.

Some recent developments are likely to open up opportunities and give a boost to nuclear power generation in India. NTPC would like to utilize such new opportunities and be a part of the efforts for achieving country's energy security.

Q.3 Please tell us your opinion about the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Ans. This is a very important step. The Governments of both the countries are engaged at the highest levels to finalise the details. Any initiative which promotes civil nuclear program of the country in line with our stated national policies and priorities is a welcome step.

Q.4 The Planning Commission's documents has sought for increasing coal efficiency in thermal power plants from 30 percent to 39 percent. Where does the NTPC stand and by when do you think that this target can be achieved?

Ans. The conversion efficiency of NTPC power stations today is around 36%. NTPC is introducing super critical parameters in several new units like in Sipat and Barh. These units will have conversion efficiency of 38-39%. In super critical units with higher steam temperature parameters, the conversion efficiency may go up to 40% and is achievable.

We strongly advocate and support the Planning Commission's policy directives and we are moving towards achieving this goal.

In addition to adoption of super critical parameters, continuous efficiency improvement of the existing units will also result in efficiency gains. Various groups within the company such as engineering, operation services, R&D are working towards the goal of continuous improvement in reliability of operation and efficiency. All this will lead to higher conversion efficiency in the near future.

Q.5. Under the 'Bharat Nirman' scheme, how many villages the NTPC has taken for rural electrification. Please give details.

Ans. Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana takes care of the rural electrification component of 'Bharat Nirman' scheme, a time bound plan for rural infrastructure development undertaken by the Government of India, in partnership with State Governments and Panchayat Raj Institutions. The scheme is to be completed by the year 2009.

Under the Scheme, the Ministry of Power has the responsibility of providing electricity to the 125,000 villages which have remained uncovered by electrification. In addition, 23 million rural households are to be provided electricity.

NTPC has been making significant contribution to this Yojana through its involvement in projects for electrification of over 40,000 villages in about 30 districts spread across 5 States namely West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa.
