1. IAS officers are the best of talent. IAS officers come from varied backgrounds. This is not true of other services like the Foreign Service, IPS or Customs, IRS or IAAS etc, as these people come from the same background. All of them.
2. According to popular management theory and pratice throughout the world as we go higher up the ladder 85% Administrative Skill and 15% technical knowledge is sufficient to run the show. The IAS has more infinitely more administrative skill than the Foreign Service, IPS,IAAS, IRS, Customs or any other service. That is because they are the successor service to the ICS and are born to rule.
3. The IAS gains a wide experience right from his postings in the field. No other Service can match the IAS because no other service is posted to the field. No other service has the brains to make policy. Since the IAS officer has been posted at the cutting edge level, he knows what the people need though the people may not know what they need.
4. The IAS officers serve in the remotest part of the country. This is not true for other services like the Foreign service (who may have served in even remoter parts of the world)IPS, IAAS, Customs, IRS etc who do not serve the country at all. There are many IAS officers who spend their major part of their lifetimes in N.E and J&K. No other Service does that, not the IPS, nor the Forest Service, nor any other Service. IAS officers man the Policing, Accounting, Forestry and all other posts in all these places, there are no other Services in J&K or North East, the IPS officers who lay down their lives in these places do not serve the country at all.

Expect on this a lengthy verbal duel!!!

Autonomy and self-rule is not the way out!!! BJP feels this is another one of the 'please Muslim' impetuses of this Sarkaar!!! Or has the Congress decided that United States of India is not that bad an idea!!!! As it is with local Parties coming up and blossoming maybe Congress feels this is the way to retain a Federal hold!!! Because once Government agrees to 'autonomy and self rule' it would have given a kick-start to similar ambitions in many States!!! Congress's pseudos who man Congress's think tank are capable of backfiring….. have a history of doing this!!!

Shahi's fate to be decided by Court ?

A writ petion has been filed in Delhi High Court by an NGO regarding extension beyond superannuation given to RV Shahi. The case is likely to come up for hearing shortly.
Shahi superannuated in January, 2005, but was given two years extension by the present Government. The NGO has contended that Shahi does not come under the categories of persons whom extension can be given.
Shahi was inducted as Secretary(Power) in 2002 when he was serving BSES, Mumbai. From time to time, controversies have been appearing in the media about his style of working. In case the verdict goes against him, IAS lobby is likely to put full pressure for appointment of thier own cadre person.
