The CBI, known for having traced the impossibles, seems to be finding it difficult to trace the file of its own officials. Or what could be the reason that when even 1984 batch IPS officers in the country have been promoted, a 1983 batch official, BB Mishra, is left high and dry. Nobody, perhaps, knows where his promotion file is?

We all should understand that every service has some good and not so good aspects and individuals. Being in IAS I feel that every other service is gunning for IAS and our service is not united and there is such high level of cut throat competition that it remains only cut throat not a healthy competition. Our IAS officers are most of the time favouring other service officers at the cost of their own service officer. IAS has no other posts available for promotion from other services while IAS posts are given to other service officers. The recent example is empanelment of Additional Secretary 1975 batch. The fact that most of the officers from other services want to get the posts held by IAS officers shows that they also want to be one of us. Then why this criticism?

The ongoing controversy regarding the superiority of the IAS, vis-a-vis the other All India Services and Central Services is really quite amusing and is infact, much ado about nothing! It is a fact that a very large number of IAS officers were earlier in some other service and joined the IAS happily on their selection, often forgoing a couple of years seniority in the IPS, Income Tax, Customs and Central Excise, Audits and Accounts etc. Obviously they felt that the price was worth paying! It is also safe to assume that the majority of those who are not in the IAS, joined other services because they were not selected for it. In fact, members of the other services have little to complain about, as their chances of promotions, deputations and foreign assignments have improved substantially over the years and the much touted "parity" with the premier Civil Service has been achieved, de facto, if not de jure ! Personally speaking, I lost two years of Service seniority in the Income Tax, when I was selected for the IAS and in my low moments, wonder whether the price was worth paying.

This debate will lead you no where. IAS officers need not worry. IAS bashing is favorite pass time for everyone...be it other services, media and the rest. After all for every IAS officer in the country we have around 100,000 guys who didn't make it to the IAS and ended up in all these services and other professions!!!!

ITS SAD THAT THE WHOLE DISCUSSIONS IS GETTING REDUCED TO IAS VS OTHER SERVICES WITH SO MANY GENERIC CONCLUSIONS EITHER WAY. I THINK LARGER QUESTION HERE IS WHETHER THE PRESENT BEUROCRATIC SETUP IS ABLE TO PERFORM TO THE NEEDS AND SATISFACTION OF OUR CLIENTS I.E. PUBLIC. IF THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS IN NEGATIVE THAN FORUM FOR DISCUSSIONS NEEDS TO BE BROADENED. I SUPPOSE TODAY WHAT IS POSSIBLY HAPPENING IS THAT POLITICIAN IS IN A HURRY (WE ALL KNOW FOR WHAT!)AND AS A RESULT HE IS FITTING WHOSOEVER IN HIS OPINION MOST PLIANT OR MAY BE A KNOWN ENTITY WHICH HAPPENS TO BE IAS IN MOST CASES CONSEQUENTLY CONCENTRATION OF POWER IN ONE SERVICE SEGMENT LEADING ALL OTHERS FEELING LEFTOUT.
IT IS SAD TODAY WHILE SPECIALIST ARE BACKBONE OF THE CORPORATE GROWTH, IN GOVERNMENT CONCENTRATION STILL REMAINS TO BE ON GENERALISTS. IRS OFFICERS WOULD NEVER BE REVENUE SECRETARY! MEDICINE MAN CANNOT HEAD HEALTH DEPARTMENT FINANACE MAN CANNOT HEAD FINANACE MINISTRY SO ON AND SO FORTH. RESULTANT DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM IS NOT BEING CALCULATED AND DIFFERENT SERVICES ARE INDULGING INTO ONLY TURF WARS VIS A VIS IAS RATHER THAN ASKING FOR ADMINISTRATIVE REFORMS WHICH ARE PRESENTLY MOST NEEDED. INFACT SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION TODAY CAN BE GAUGED FROM THE FACT THAT EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY IS LITERALLY BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE COURTS WHO ARE DETREMINING AND INITIATING DIFFERENT EXECUTIVE ACTIONS.MAY BE ESTABLISHMENT WILL WAKE UP SOME DAY AND START LOOKIN AT ITS ADMINISTRATIVE MACHINERY AS A WHOLE WHICH RIGHT NOW SEEMS TO BE IN COMPLETE MESS AND WE ALL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAME.

Yes relations between Congress and Commies will sour!!!

Don't you think this would have been a point of discussion in the Bush Manmohan parleys???? And despite this if India were to vote, which is an impossibility, then Bush might as well not push Nuclear Agreement in the Senate!!!! Yes, Commies are going to do a lot of barking, growling , baring of teeth…… but that is all that is going to happen!!! India will issue a Diplomatic but response…. Iran has the right to Nuclear power for civil use but Iran satisfy Non Proliferation requirements!!!!

The Indo Iran Pipeline is now off…. green power will now the new power,
But Indo Iran relations will not necessarily sour!!!

The Indo Iran Pipeline will slowly but surely be termed as 'not viable'…… bureaucratic way!!!! The Gas is to be sourced from a Islamic Nation and the pipeline will pass through unfriendly territory. And when Power will be available locally then why do we have to get gas from Iran???

Both the above points will be used by Bush to sell his Indian Nuclear Agreement,

USA is repositioning its eggs…….. Pakistan is no longer a safe basket!!!! And more so because of its friendship with China!!! India is perceived to be an upcoming and stable (also mentally) power!!! India has not been passing on Nuclear technology to other Nations!!!! The we are a Democracy…… all pluses!!! Only minus for India is the galloping Muslim population…. EC has forwarded its recommendation that Jaya Bachchan be disqualified,

And in all probability President Kalam will allow the EC's plea. Jaya will approach the SC……..and the Amargate tapes show that both are 'confident' of getting justice from SC!!!! This is a Commission appointed by Laloo and for Laloo!!! For Laloo because this Commission not only but Modi in the dock put also got Laloo brownie points from the Muslims!!! In fact is the first place was wrong to name this as a Commission!!! Now the High Court has directed UPA that the Report cannot be tabled in Parliament!!! This is a classical example how Commissions are used to damn things….. then there are Commissions that let people off the hook…. what an apt name 'commission'!!!

CVC penalises several bank officials

CVC has imposed penalty on several bank officials including six from the SBI, five from PNB, three from Union Bank and one each from Allahabad Bank, Central Bank and Oriental bank.

Finally Kailash Gupta wins ?

During the selection of the Director (Personnel), Shipping Corporation of India, there was a big fight over selection of the candidate, between the Chairman and Members of the PESB. Chairman wanted Kailash Gupta, only a General Manager cadre official in NALCO, to be selected for the said post. But the Members of the Board preferred to have an outstanding officer from Railways, Mukundan. Even, other candidates including Air Vice-Marshals of Indian Air Force, Major Generals of Indian Army etc. were there in the race. Finally, Kailash Gupta has reportedly been selected for the high profile post of Director (Personnel).
