Now service is not a moto of politician

While dissecting Col. Dhawan's article on the perks and priviliges enjoyed by MPs in our country, Tripathy has made a very simplistic, imaginative yet unrealistic assumption that the perks and privileges enjoyed by an individual should have a strong positive co-relation with his/her ranking in the warrant of precedence. I find that a very serious issue raised by Col. Dhawan has been downplayed by analysing it from a very superficial plane. The MPs are supposed to be representative of people of this poor country and it is expected that they join politics with the ultimate aim of serving the poor and downtrodden by raising their voice in the house which unfortunately witnesses pandemonium many a time when important national or international issues are being debated. On one of the few occasions I have seen real sense of brotherhood and camaraderie prevailing among all the parliamentarians cutting across party line was then when a bill relating to hike in perks and privileges was being introduced. This selfish tendency in itself is fatal for a country's polity which is otherwise characterised by numerous social division, vertical as well as horizontal. The spirit of selfless service to the country on the part of people pursuing political career is on a steady decline and that should be a matter of concern for all right thinking people and not a trite issue like this as to who should be entitled to what kind of perks and privileges and the rationale behind that.
Rajesh Kumar Singh

Believe me, it happens

I couldn't agree more with the comments of SK Tripathi. The daylight robbery carried out by the babus and officers in government "SERVICE" (of self, family and cronies) far outweighs the damage done by corrupt politicians. This is actually the silent killer as otherwise India would have been far ahead of China as we are intelligent and hard working as a country.
In fact many babus are such masters of this "C" art that they are the ones who actually teach some of politicians the ropes of this art once the politicians are in the government. Believe me it happens!

Why MP should not be paid more

I saw the write up by Col satish Dewan. What does he want to prove?

Sad that he thinks that MPs have 'no qualification'. Mere 'education' does not mean 'wisdom' or 'learning'. Moreover, whether we like it or not, it is the MPs who represent people and have some accountability to the people. In general, they are also the ones who can feel the pulse of the people.
After all, democracy has its costs. For that matter every system has its associated costs. We can't discard every system only on the grounds that it involves some costs. If the argument is that a bureaucrat has to be paid more, I do not see why an MP should not be paid more as well. As the argument goes, if you want to pay 'peanuts', you will only get 'monkeys'. This could be true for any sector/profession!

Let us have some sense of balance while criticising others!

Siva

Amount will swell over

Estimates of Col Satish for MPs at Rs. 855.00 Crores are only on a conservative scale. Add to this allowance every year for the work/jobs done in the Constituency every year (Rs. 2.00 Crores), allowances on visiting as members of the Committees and staying in five star hotels. The tax-payers amount will swell to over Rs. 2000.00 crores. Democracy is a costly affair, but then what is the alternative?

R S Dudani

Legislature is integral part of democracy

Dhavan! I used to enjoy your 'collections' and snippets on various things but not the latest one on MP's. All said n done, Legislature is an integral part of democracy and we need to pay the MP's. Definitely the country can't be left to Babu's or Military as we see what's happening in the world! The question is not how much we are paying to our MP's but how much the country and citizens are extracting from them! Let us all devise a better way to make the MP's work for betterment and before that, we all Babu's and Army shall know to deliver goods!

Aaj Ki Aawaz

Now Renuka has been requisitioned to counter BJP's attack!!!
Congress has taken out the Joker in its pack!!!

Renuka sang a old Bollywood song…… sajjan re jhoot matt bolo!!!
In a Press Conference for Praibha Renuka performed solo!!!!

And Public knows kaun hai jhoota!!!
Democracy ko kiss ne hai loota???

And Renuka is known for her nautanki histrionics … recall her drama baazi!!!
When Sonia said to become PM she was not raazi!!

Renuka in camera glare shed croc tears…. Sonia too was amused!!!
Many say to get into the Cabinet croc tears Renuka used!!!

Sushma accuses Congress of getting her phone tapped…… there is reason for this!!
Because Congress cannot afford ki Presidential Bus Pratibha karre miss!!!

Karat Vaani…… now he says that VP could be apolitical!!!
What baloney….. can he give one reason why should the President be political????

And hearing this Somnath Da is not going to be too happy!!!
Next time Karat meets Somnath Da he'll find him crappy and scrappy!!!

Commies and UPA are going to have a powwow on how to counter charges on Pratibha!!
As of today BJP has succeeded in showing that to become President she has no pratibha!!

All that they can do is try to paint Shekhawat blacker than Pratibha!!!
And in this both Congress and Commies have the pratibha!!!

But that will not wash Pratibha's taint!!!
Shekawat ko kitna bhi black karr de paint!!!

Congress in its penchant to get a loyalist in Rahstraphti Bhavan has egg on its face!!!
As for Indians if Pratibha wins India would have lost the race!!!

Laloo has issued a clean chit to a Railways DIG accused of molestation!!!
The incident took place at Patna station!!!

Laloo must have felt if Manmohan does this everyday why can't he do the same???
Maybe very soon Laloo's will be given the Clean Chit Man Dwitya name!!!

Dwitya because Manmohan has first claim to this name….but there is one dissimilarity!!!
Because when it comes to honesty between Manmohan and Laloo there is no similarity!!

On the Stadium matter now Mayawathi is in damage control mode!!!!
And the UP Olympic Association has stepped in to share the load!!

It was expected that she'd go on a renaming and memorial binge!!!
But this Stadium being converted into a Memorial sure does singe!!!

And when it comes to Memorials Maya takes the cake!!!
Now she's planning to rename a lake!!!

Now AP's Reddy is going the Amrinder way!!!
For tom-tomming his Government's achievements the tax payer will pay!!!

A 65 crore Mega Publicity Campaign has been cleared ….. colossal waste!!!
He should be ordered to cut down on cost for publicity and posters karre paste!!!

But if he's delivered then why should he need to advertise????
People would know of his work first hand and there would be no need to publicize!!!

On Delhi's roads Blue Line Buses were like loaded guns in bachon ke haath!!!!
Getting them to become responsible is indeed a very sensible baath!!

Blue Line Drivers were untrained and rash!!!
Everday they kill at least one Delhi waala and into at least one car karte crash!!!

Driving License issuance should be like the West!!!
Prior to issuance applicants must be made to pass like in the West test!!!

And for driving passenger buses the test should be even more elaborate!!
After all in drivers hand will be passengers and people on the road ki fate!!!

In Chandigarh in a couple of days smoking ban will come into effect!!!
But don't know why Hooka Bars ko Administration karr rahi hai protect!!!

Chandigarh Administration boasts its made very snazzy Liquor Vends,
Boast that now even Ladies can buy Liquor….. don't know what message this sends!!!

There's this rumour that ongoing Land Acquisition in Chandigarh is a Father Son act!!!
Affected Farmers say that with the Developer Guv Roddy's son has a secret pact!!!

Sonia is scheduled to hear the plea of affected Farmers post the Presidential election!!!
Farmers are meeting her to seek from Guv General Roddy's ire protection!!!

Guv Roddy on the other hand says its just Farm House owners making the hullabaloo,
Well if Guv Roddy's land would have been acquired wouldn't he have done the same too???

The multi crore mega project of "Bharat Oman Refinery Ltd" (BORL) coming up at Agasaud near Bina will entirely change economic scenario in the Central India. This was stated by BORL's enterprising & a dedicated Managing Director R.P.Singh. In an interview to <whispersinthecorridors.com>
he unfolded his plans on how the refinery was being constructed while maintaining highest standards in the field of construction.
Singh who is known for his integrity & perseverance is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that project was completed on time. He has evolved such a mechanism whereby construction work of the refinery is being monitored on daily basis. "With the present trend of progress of the project it is expected that it will be completed as per schedule, i.e., December 2009," said RP Singh in an interview with whispers.

1/In what way the Bharat Oman Refinery is different from others?

Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd (BORL), is a joint venture company of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Oman Oil Company Ltd., Oman. BORL is implementing a 6 MMTPA grassroot refinery project at Bina,(Madhya Pradesh). BORL is a private sector company; however, it has a very strong backing from BPCL. This region has no other refinery and the refinery would have logistical advantage in catering to the central part of the country. The products of this refinery will be marketed by BPCL.

2/At what stage is the project at present?

The project is going ahead with full swing on all the fronts. Process packages from various licensors have been received and the engineering activities are at its peak. All the long lead delivery items for different units have been ordered well in advance. Other major items for various units have also been ordered. Site grading work at refinery as well as crude oil terminal at Vadinar in Gujarat has been completed. Power at construction site is already available. Civil and structural work contractors for different units are at site. Approximately 3000 works are going on at site. The overall physical progress is 19.7% against the target of 17.9%.

3/By when will it be operational?

With the present trend of progress of the project it is expected it will be completed as per schedule, i.e., December 2009.

4/How finances are being managed to fund the project?

The as- built Capital Cost of the Project is estimated at Rs.10378 Crores (US $ 2.3 Billions) comprising expenditure towards land & site development, plant & machinery, licences, know-how & basic engineering, PMC & other Consultancy, civil works & infrastructure, township, start-up expenses, contingencies, interest during construction, margin money for working capital, etc. The Project cost is proposed to be financed at a debt / equity mix of 1.6:1. The debt has been arranged through a consortium of 14 banks.

5/By when do you aim at achieving breakeven?

The project's Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is projected at 14% and payback period is between six to seven years.

6/Will you please enlist salient features of the project?

Some of the salient features of the refinery configuration are as below: -

One of the unique features of refinery process configuration is that it has integrated high pressure Diesel Hydrotreater with Full Conversion Hydro cracker which is first of its kind in India. This integration provides capital cost reduction and improve energy efficiency.
Fifty per cent of its products will be of Euro III level & rest fifty per cent products will be of Euro IV level.
The Captive Power Plant is a Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) type Boiler based power plant, generating power through Steam Turbo Generator (STG) using pet coke as main fuel. Pet coke based Captive Power Plant is being put up for the 1st time in Indian refining industry. Pet coke generated from delayed coker unit is utilized as main fuel of captive Power Plant.
Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) is integrated with Tail Gas Treating unit (TGTU), over all Sulphur recovery achieved by both the units in combination is 99.9 wt%.
As a part of the project, a number of social upliftment activities like establishing hospital, school, playground etc., to take care of the requirements of employees of the Company as well as local people have been planned.
In addition to the above, this project is expected to generate employment opportunities for local people and substantial revenue to the state exchequer.
