FORUM

iT's a relevant point of debate

Mrs. Neeta Singh & N Kumar have striked a very relevant point for
debate. Let them please also answer a question that where is the state government wrong if PCS officers with a seniority of more than 20-25 years are appointed to any important post. These PCS officers should have become Divisional Commissioners/Secretaries had they got IAS in time. In fact officers from PCS are still at injustice as they are getting only positions which are of rank DCs / Joint Secretary with a service of 25 years. There is no dispute that young IAS officers must get good postings in state but they must also think about their PCS Colleagues and take initiative in getting justice for them.

Neeta Singh is right

Neeta singh has touched the right chord. In various states, State governments are harassing young IAS officers by appointing them at certain avoidable posts as they don't want to become slaves. Seniors these days are busy in their interests so let's forget IAS and give 100% reservation to PCS officers. They will also feel happy and young blood will get to IIM or IIT or will open a pan shop. In certain states they are not even given vehicles, houses and basic amenities. When wiill we wake up for the fraternity???

N Kumar

Sentiments of Neeta Singh must be appreciated

The sentiments of Mrs. Neeta singh must be appreciated. There is no doubt about the superiority & competence of AIS officers but it must also be noted that the gap between the seniority of AIS officers and PCS officers is increasing and this is the reason that in some states officers with 20-25 years of experience are being posted on important places. In fact in order to maintain the all India character of AIS officers who are promoted to AIS from PCS be sent to other states but the gap of seniority must be reduced. This will also solve the problem of patronage to State cadre officers by respective states.

Pay parity comes with performance parity

If the cost of feeding 10-20 CS equivalent IAS & IPS officers in every state and 100s of them in GOI (plus 100 + re-employed ones)is factored in, unlike even the biggest private companies that have only one MD, then Secretaries should actually have a large pay cut!! Let us get rid of this barrel like structure first and then talk of pay parity with the private sector. In any case pay parity comes with performance parity, not to the exclusion of either!

"I am glad there is no proposal to raise retirement age"

I am glad there is no proposal to increase the retirement age in civil services. Under this garb the political leaders may exploit the services by offering them extensions, re-employment or jobs in committees and compromise the officers before retirement. In fact officers should retire at 60 and leave the field for younger officers to fill up. They will have ample opportunities outside for good work. Let them be honest in their advice to politicians at that stage instead of seeking favours. That should be hallmark of good governance

Senior Citizen

Retirement age should not be raised

The Age of the Central Govt. Employee should not be raised to 62 years as there is already huge number of eligible(age/qualification wise) unemployed youth waiting to get in Government Services. In order to avail the benefit of the experience and talent of the higher level officers, the Govt. should be free to avail the services of the experienced/brilliant policy makers/ Management level officers on contract or on other terms as being done presently.

Is Cricket only important in this country ?

Today the whole country is celebrating the country's win in the 20-20 world cup and people have made the cricketers a star. It is certainly a moment of pride for all of us and the young cricket team deserves praise for its achievement. There was also a news that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the civil aviation minister and a host of politicians have received them at airport. The question arises here is that are we intending to say that only cricket is the only game which is important to this country and rest have no meaning. The second question is have all these CMs & Ministers found time to even meet a lot of other unknown soldiers in the country who have earned international/ national recognition for their works in the field of water conservation, energy conservation, science & technology, Food security etc. These issues are far more important than Cricket or any other game as they are related to the survival of the countrys 100 crore population but the irony is that our leaders dont have time for such things. Let the readers of this site introspect and deliberate that what carries more importance for the people of this nation.
