Secretary Banking Vinod Rai will take over from V N Kaul as new CAG of India on January 7.He is 1972 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.Atleast one dozen IAS officers belonging to 1969 to 1973 batch were in the run for this prestigious job.

Dr Sanjeev Mishra gets three months extension

Secretary Expenditure in the Government of India Dr Sanjeev Mishra has been granted three months extension in service till March 31.1972 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer Mishra was to retire on December 31.

IDFC's Loss is ILFS' Gain

IDFC is now reportedly losing good IAS officers. OP.Agarwal (!979, IAS, Assam) put in his papers reportedly after differences with Rajiv Lall, Chairman and MD, less than two months after quitting IAS to join them. He has now joined ILFS's Transport company as CEO. This is the second major blow to IDFC in recent times.

Post must go to Army

The post of Secretary Army Welfare can be given to the Services, provided an equivalent post in the Army is given to the IAS. Both suggestions are equally absurd. The Army should stick to guarding our borders instead of becoming soft and luxury loving. They have enough perks as it is ,what with free rations for all officers even in peace stations. How much more do they want to grab? Their greed and egotism has no limit. It is equalled only by their arrogance. For an army officer a civilian is a sub- human and he openly displays his contempt. This happens only in India and Pakistan where the army was colonial and these mental habits continue. Look at Gen. Musharrf, he is just like any of our army officers.

Story of 4 Wives

There was a rich merchant who had The Four Wives
He loved the 4th wife the most.
He adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies.
He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much.
He's very proud of her and always wanted to show her off to his friends.
However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.
He loved his 2nd wife too. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant's confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times. Now, the merchant's 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, "Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I'll be alone. How lonely I'll be!" Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!" replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word. The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant's heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is so good over here! I'm going to remarry when you die!" The merchant's heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I always turned to you for help and you've always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated. Then a voice called out : "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go." The merchant looked up and there was his 1st wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!" Actually we all have 4 wives in our lives,.. The 4th wife is our body
No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others The 2nd wife Is our family and friendsNo matter how close they had been there for us when we're alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave

The 1st wife something you can't see is in fact our soul
Often neglected in our pursuit of material wealth and sensual pleasure. It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it's a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we're on our deathbed to lament.

NBCC bags Rs.140 crore contract from CIL

The National Building Construction Corporation(NBCC), the largest construction CPSU, has bagged a Rs.140 crore construction contract for construction of Coal India's Corporate Office and Rsidential Complex in Kolkata. An MoU to this effect, was signed recently between Arup roy Choudhury Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD)NBCC & Partha S.Bhattacharya Chairman Coal India Limited in Delhi. The Office Complex would be executed in Green Building concept, shall have an intelligent building management system & would be certified under the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Programme. The project is to be completed with in a period of 30 months on a turnkey basis.

SAIL bags SCOPE Gold Trophy

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)of which Chairman is S.K.Roongta, has won the Gold Trophy of the prestigious 'SCOPE Award for excellence & outstanding contributions to the public sector management' for the year 2006-07 .Bestowed every year after evaluation of established performance criteria by a jury comprising eminent persons and assisted by the International Management Institute, the five-member jury for the awards was headed by Justice P.N. Bhagwati.SAIL had earlier won the same trophy for the year 2004-05 and special SCOPE Award in the turnaround category for achieving a spectacular turnaround in 2003-04.

Air India set to join Star Alliance

At their annual Board Meeting, the CEO's of the Star Alliance member airlines had voted on December 13,2007;to accept the application of Air India to become a future member of the alliance.Glenn Tilton, Chairman and CEO of United Airlines, in his capacity as the Chairman of meeting said "India has long been on the radar of Star Alliance; after all it is one of the world's fastest growing economies and aviation markets. Having now come to an agreement with Air India makes us the first airline alliance to secure a member in India, which will enable our customers to receive more benefits when travelling to, from and within India in the future."On the other hand Vasudevan Thulasidas, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India has hailed the invitation.He said"in being selected as a future Star Alliance member, Air India will add value to passengers patronising member airlines of the alliance".Specialised teams at Air India, Star Alliance and its member carriers will now be working on the integration process, which once completed, will make Air India a part of the Star Alliance network, currently consisting of 19 members.

500 crore project signed in Punjab
The Punjab State today achieved a major breakthrough in the field of renewable energy as the multi-national company M/s. Suzlon Gujarat Wind Park Ltd signed two MoUs with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) for the setting up of two Wind Power Projects of 50MW each (total 100 MW) in District Hoshiarpur and District Mukatsar at an estimated cost of Rs.500 Crore. The MoUs were signed between Chief Executive, PEDA, Sh. T.P.S. Sidhu and Sh. Atul Shah, Director of M/s. Suzlon Gujarat Wind Parks Ltd. in the presence of Bikram Singh Majithia, Science and Technology Minister.
