servants is surely no easy business- and that we're learning everyday.
At long last names have begun to trickle in from different states but,
one thinks, a few words of explanation along with the nomination-not
like what is written on emotionless files, but like what may make a
readable one liner-would make this exercise a lot more interesting.
This, therefore, is by way of a second reminder in the journey of discovering

(I don't know the year-batch) A gem of a person by heart and a tough task master at work. I had an opportunity to be with him when we visited AP for assessing flood situation in 2006. He came with us to Srikakulam where he had worked as Collector. At night 8'0 clock when our vehicle stopped at a traffic junction on way to Srikakulam near a temple, a commoner on road hailed "Collector garu osthunnaru" and immediately 15-20 people gathered around him pouring love and affection unseen atleast by me so far. He even remembers the names of all the people he has come into contact at Srikakulam. He conducts Horticulture review at 10.00 PM in Visakhapatnam's circuit house after 12 hours of grueling travel. When we all went to rest he started the review meeting and cheerfully without any murmur all his departmental officers attended the review including 2-3 lady officers. He ensured everybody was dropped in vehicle after the meeting. More than IAS he is a genuinely humane human being. If only India gets a few officers like him we would definitely be a developed country in 2020 nay 2010.My prayers to god for blessing him with best of things in life. A Muralidharan Benefit of one, loss to other The recent cadre review in ISS has removed the long standing grievance
of the ISS officers about acute stagnation, Almost all the officers
recruited in 1976 or earlier years have got Addl Secretary grade, even
before completing 3 years at JS level (In IAS it takes about 10 years
or more). Officers of 1978 batch and below upto 1981 have been promoted
to the level of JS even before completing the mandatory 8 years as Director/DS.
With 326% increase in JS level posts, other batches of 1982 and below
are bound to benefit in years to come. Only batch, which didn't get
any benefit from cadre review i.e. 1977, has also been "rewarded"
by CCA. Most of the 1977 batch officers have been transferred to non-descript
upgraded posts in field organisation, which till recently were manned
by AD(JTS) level officers. No body has thought of SSS, whose chances
of promotion have been taken away by the cadre review of ISS. Will the
Cabinet Secretary review the functional justification for upgradation
of posts in field offices of NSSO to JS level from AD/DD level, and
restore the status-quo? Aaj Ki Aawaz On such a vital matter why did Congress slip???? A quantum jump by SAIL You may have heard about the "Mida's touch but in the Steel sector
it is the Roongta's touch which is being discussed. Ever since SK Roongta
assumed chairmanship of the Steel Authority of India Ltd(SAIL) last
year, the steel giant has made a rapid progress. SAIL's shares which
were in two digit figure have now galloped at such a fast pace that
a share is worth over Rs.110.Even during 3rd quarter of the current
financial year SAIL has registered a net profit of Rs.1471 crore as
against Rs.656 crore in 3rd quarter of the last financial year. New CMD of ONGC by May end Ravi Sharma may join Birla Sun Life Roy to join DD Asset Management Company Indian introduces on-line check-in facility National carrier Indian has added another feather to its technology
advancement cap with the introduction of on-line check-in for its passengers
from today. Called i-check-in, the self check-in facility was launched
by Indian's Chairman and Managing Director Vishwapati Trivedi in Delhi.
Ankur Bhatia, Executive Director, Bird Information Systems, which is
the service provider for the application and Mrs. Anita Khurana, Indian's
Director Commercial were also present on the occasion. Announcing the launch, Trivedi said, "We are committed to redefining
air travel in India by offering the very best. The i-check-in facility
will help save time, increase productivity and offer seamless service
to our clients." The 24 X 7 i-Check-in facility will offer passengers holding e-tickets
the ease of choosing their seat, checking-in and getting a boarding
card, all from the comfort of their home or office, for flights departing
either on the same day or the next day upto two hours before the scheduled
departure of the flight. This facility has been extended, to begin with,
to passengers holding e-tickets, Dial-A-Ticket, net ticket and Bid and
Fly tickets for travel on domestic sectors only. The procedure itself is very user friendly with simple steps to follow
after logging on to the airline's website www.indianairlines.in. The
passenger can go directly for security check after taking a print out
of the boarding card. A unique feature of this facility offered by Indian
is that as many as 9 passengers can check-in through a single PNR. While
passengers with baggage can also opt for i-Check-in, they will however
have to reach the airport one hour prior to departure of the flight
to check-in their baggage. So also, passengers who need special assistance
like wheelchairs, ambulift or are unaccompanied minors, must report
to the Duty Manager at the airport one hour before the flight departure.
Indian is on the threshold of a major technology upgrade. On the anvil is a state-of-the-art Passenger Services System (PSS) besides the induction of 42 brand new Airbus aircraft from mid-2007. Indian is the nation's leading carrier linking 54 domestic and 18 international destinations, with over 300 flights taking off every day. For more details log on to www.indianairlines.in. |
