It is not for nothing that all Hindu names have a specific meaning,unlike John Robert,David which hardly mean anything.
Seen in this background,one should be impressed with the pratibha(talent) of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi who wriggled out of the tangled cobwebs created by the UPA fellow travelers while deciding the Presidential nominee for the UPA.The Marxist prakash (light) turned off all glimmers from the Congress contenders,despite attempts galore from the treasure of piety (Karunanidhi).As UPA history shows Prakash, infact has proved to be a harbinger of darkness on several occasions.But, Sonia proved one up this time History will be made.A lady President for India.
One may ask,whether it was all a message for women empowerment only.The answers would be interesting .With a lady President,will there be room enough for a lady Prime Minister ?.Someone's illusions (maya) will be dashed even before they began to take shape.What about the Third Front for which manipulations had started with a strong sharad (winter) reportedly being wood to lead it.With a Maharashtrian lady in Rashtrapati Bhawan can another Maharashtrian dream of his being in the PM House ?.His pleasant winter may never begin.So the talent (Pratibha) of Sonia has taken care of a few other concomitant problems.It is not for nothing that Hindu names are chalkfull with great meaning.

GOI asked to pay $37 Million to NY Corporation

In a major blow to the Government of India, the New York State has won a property tax case against permanent mission of India & India House where Consul General's office & other residences are located.The Apex Court of America in a majority judgement 7: 2,Justice Clerance Thomas ordered the GOI to pay a whopping amount of $ 37 Million. This includes interest at the rate of 18 per cent annually. India originally owed $ 16.4 Million to the New York Corporation(NYC) for which the NYC had sued GOI .It is interesting to note that the NYC had decided to sue Delhi soon after investigations were launched in multi billion Dollars tax evasion was exposed against the American School of Mumbai. A case in this regard was filed in Mahrashtra High Court, only to be withdrawn later.

Individuals matter not the service

1.Views of K Ratna Prabha are absolutely worthy. It is the individuals not the service that matters. However a slightest look at the administrative setup in India reveals that just opposite is being followed. So, while Brilliancy is interspersed occupancy is cornered.

2. For improvement in the administration before giving illogical suggestion of abolishing IAS we should see that statistically average intelligence in IAS is the best. However by putting this intelligence to 'n' no, of direction the outcome often is pathetic. So, the solution lies in the specialisation within IAS, other wise these officers will continue to find the subjects (on which decisions are to be taken by them) alien to themselves.

Similarity between Pratibha Patil and Shekhawat
Both, Devi Singh (DS)Shekhawat and Bhairon Singh (BS) Shekhawat belong to same district, same tehsil, same taluka and same Panachayat Samiti. DS comes from a village called Losal whereas BS belongs to village Khachariawas, both fall under earstwhile jagir of Danta, district Sikar, Tehsil and Panchayat Samiti of Danta Ramgarh. Interestingly, BS has lived in Losal for a long time when he served in police. In fact, it was Losal where he served in police last and thereafter entered politics. Interesting, Jyestha and Bahu now vying and competing for the coveted position.

It's a myth
The higher ranks of the IAS is a myth. Till some years back, all top ranks opted for the Foreign Service. Many people have not opted for the IAS though they had higher ranks (IFS, IPS, IRS etc, this trend is growing as well). In addition, if one makes a list of pre interview and post interview top 100, the bias in the interview will be clear. Further, the interview decides who obtains a higher rank. Even otherwise, a once in a lifetime rank should not determine anybody's life long career. Anyway, if rank alone is important, why don't these fellows go by rank in the Civil Services exam rather than Service while empanelment, promotions and postings at top level? People with higher ranks in the exam who joined IFS ahead of the IAS are rotting as Joint Secretaries while IAS officers who could not get the IFS due to their lower ranks are Additional Secretaries. The IAS is too self seeking and has only its own vested interests at heart. It serves itself and none other.

Why not alternative system of CGHS ?
We read views from the proponents and opponents on the efficacy of CGHS. I have availed CGHS facility during my service tenure of 39 years and post retirement. The problems that I faced are those of lack of sincerity of the people manning the services. Thank GOD they don't write these days. I shall leave no stone unturned...the stones are still turned but where it benefits the incumbents be it CGHS or any other service. The irony is that to recommend abolition, of something or is not effective or not functioning in the best interest of the public, is easy. Why not suggest an alternative system which will not have the ills of CGHS and be effective for people across the classes of government employees.
That's a great idea. Let us split CGHS into 2 -3 competing organisations. Let the members chose where they wish to avail services from. A market competition and quality of service will improve, as it has happened in Civil aviation, Telecom etc.

The comment posted by a 'Yashraj'; "without IAS..Indian democracy." is undemocratic and parochial in it's vision. I do not know whether he is or has been IAS but his comment is mired with Departmentalism, zealousy and total lack of appreciation for other services. Such comments do no good for the IAS as well.It breeds unnecessary insecurity and distrust towards IAS; among other services. I request the editor of this popular site not to give space to such rubbish on it's pages here.
The civil services are facing numerous external pressures and challenges; foolish comments like the one By 'Yashraj' do only damage to IAS and other services.
