FORUM

IFS vs IFoS
In the year 2001, as Director of the National Police Academy, Hyderabad, we erected an Alumni Column and put up a plaque detailing the history of the IPS. According to my study, in June 1893, the British held competitive examinations to two new services namely the Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service. The IPS Association was formed in 1911 and one of its two main demands was that the service should be known as the Imperial Indian Police. On 31 December 1933, the Govt changed the name to Indian Police (IP). The Indian Forest Service was disbanded in 1922 due to reasons of economy following

World War I. It was again revived in 1968.
Competitive examination for recruitment to the IAS, IPS and the Indian Foreign Service were held for the first time 2 months before Independence - in June 1947. The Indian Foreign Service (which has a much older history) came into being along with the other 2 services in 1948. There was no Forest Service then and hence it was rightly known as the IFS. In the context of the present day, it would be appropriate to change the name of the Forest Service to Indian Forest and Environment Service (IFES).
P. V. Rajgopal IPS (Retd).

IFS or IfoS ?

Even in LBS Academy Indian Forest Service should be called as IFS only as this the AIS rather than Indian Foreign Service which is just central service. It may be called just Foreign Service or IFos for that short period.

Paul

Forest Service needs to be designated !

I agree that there is a confusion as to whether IFS means Foreign or Forest Service. The only way to resolve it is to see as to which is the more important service. Therefore the Forest Service needs to be designates appropriately as the Indian Forest & Wildlife Service or something like that.

Kuldeep Bharadwaj

What is there in a name ?

This is indeed ridiculous to argue about the suitability or otherwise of appropriateness of Indian Forest Service's acronym. As somebody has quite wisely said that what is there in a name. To my mind rather than wasting time in debating over such trivial issue for long our colleagues from the IFS or IFoS ( whatever it ought to be ) should devote more time and energy for increasing forest cover in the country because if the deforestation remains unabated then that time will come sooner than later when the members of this All India Service would be called Indian Wildlife Service(WFF). WFF would stand for Without Flora and Fauna.

Rajesh Kumar Singh

SPs are going to head police stations !

ADGs will replace IGs means DGs will replace ADGs and Home Secretaries will replace DGs. Already DIGs have replaced SPs and IGs have replaced DIGs. When will this stop. Let the senior officers at the top leave their greed for occupying posts meant for juniors. Today in an age of decentralisation when the constables, the SIs, the Inspectors need to be empowered in order to improve the system this attitude is not a welcome step. If this trend continues days are not far when SPs will head Police Stations and DGs will be incharge of districts.

R Kumar

Retirement age should be raised
It is a welcome step. It should be extended to all government employees. Instead of doing things in piece meal, retirement age of all central government employees need to be raised to 62 yrs.

Jainarain

Age of Doctors should be 65

The retirement age for medical officers should be 65 years

Aaj Ki Aawaz

Pratibhatai has a lot of answering to do,
Everyday there's a new boo!!!

In the US Presidential election candidates are put under the microscope,
With a very intrusive Opposition and Media the candidates have to cope.

So Congress needs to pipe down on what's being uncovered,
Because it's the job of the Opposition to bring out what has been covered.

During emergency Pratbhatai went overboard for her Boss,
Wanted those with hereditary diseases should suffer permanent reproduction loss!!

And what's even more damning for her is Pawar giving her a clean chit,
Pawar knows his standing in Public so with one stone two birds ko kiya hit!!

Pawar knows with a clean chit from him in actuality Pratibhatai's stock will fall!!!
And in Maharashtra he'll boast that to make a local a President he took the call!!

Pratibhatai's been a NCP baiter so Pawar is not to happy with her candidature,
And he's not to happy with his Party's baiter assuming such a big stature!!!

Pawar himself is always in need of clean chits….. latest is in the Mumbra Port matter!!!
With every day Pawar's file for clean chits just gets fatter!!

Manmohan because of compulsions has to look the other way!!!
And this is like a clean chit many would say!!!

We tend to enthrone and dethrone too fast… like take Kalam,
Now some say their hand no longer goes up in salaam.

Fact is Kalam is not a politician and so he was not aware of the jalebi being cooked!!
By Third Front he's been rooked!!!

Fact is that now Pratibhatai has quite few question marks against her name!!!
And she's a Gandhi loyalist and that's a crying shame!!!

But like Dasmunshi says …..you Indians don't have a say!!
Advises that now all that Indians can do is pray!!!

Only vote for Pratibhatai and no second choice….. Congress's diktat!!
Isn't Congress putting Democracy on the mat????

Why tie up MPs and MLAs hands … they represent us and not the Congress!!
So for this who is Congress to press!!!

Congress has made this election totally political…… what a shame!!!
Congress's ploy to get in a loyalist ' next President will be a Dame ( Lady)'!!!

Now its come out that Railways funded the IIM's glowing Report on turnaround!!!
Via RTI this has been found!!!

So in a way it was Railways patting its own back!!!
Now for this Railways mein kiss ka boriya bistar hoe ga pack or get the sack ???

And we know Management schools from overseas came because of this Report,
Railways circulated this Report all over the World as per a report!!

Now Laloo's got egg on his face… lots and lots of andaa!!!
Now public is going to say Laloo hai badha chaloo bandaa (person)!!!

Amrinder's son says that he's like to be questioned by VB only after July 4th,
Because he knows what VB is going to bring forth!!

Courts reopen on July 4th and he will apply for bail,
He has no other option but to go to Court and wail!!!

In the meantime Papa Amrinder is cooling his heals in London in the garb of ilaaj!!!
Many Congressis say ' Bhaag gaya Amrinder…. he should have some laaj'!!!

Badal should keep his Sangath Darshan's on…….. big plus point!!!
A rare opportunity for Public to make its point!!!

Rahul Baba celebrated his birthday quietly…. unlike Virbhadra Singh!!
Virbhadra cut a cake and chamchas ne Happy Birthday kiya sing!!!

Both don't have much to celebrate…. both are feeling politically very low!!!
They say Rahul has taken UP loss like a blow!!!

Young man…. this is not the last time that you've faced such a humiliating loss!!!
Not the last time that Public ne kiya Congress ko bin mein toss!!!

My birthday gift to you is a piece of advice… become a 24x7x365 neta!!!
Who only on Feb 29 holiday from politics hai leta!!!!

Bharat Kumar
