IMAGINARY INTERVIEW WITH PRESIDENT KALAM

My school friend is a very famous Dentist and he has many VVIP patients. But he has one rule that to be treated his patients, however important they maybe, must come to his clinic. As for me…..his is the only Dental Chair that I feel is not a Chair of torture.

The other day I dropped into his Clinic to find a posse of Black Cats standing out. His Secretary whispered to me that the Doc was really busy as Sonia was undergoing some Dental treatment. She said, "Seems Sonia tried to chew something very hard and now needs Dental treatment." Allegations about Pratibha were coming out everyday and so I thought to myself 'how ironical'????

Suddenly there was a lot of commotion and the door flung open and in walked a Army Officer followed by Kalam. I jumped up and stood at attention. Seeing my reaction Kalam came up to me and put me at ease and made me sit down and sat next to me. I was the proverbial 'Jack in the box', because as he addressed me I stood up again. He made me sit down and to ensure that I kept sitting he put his hand on my shoulder. Kalam was there also for a Dental emergency. And I overheard his ADC telling the Doc's Secretary that Kalam had taken painkillers and was not in pain.

Kalam picked up a magazine and like all Dental patients leafed through the magazine nervously. Kalam's ADC informed Kalam that Madam Sonia was being treated and he'd have to wait for some time.

Me: Sir now that you have some time can I make a request???
Kalam: I'm sure you are not asking for an autograph …..
Me: No, no Sir…… can I interview you???
ADC: What????
Kalam: Are you a Journalist??
Me: No

Kalam: Do you have any Political affiliations??
Me: No……. as a citizen of India I want to interview you….. and I'll post this Interview on a Site and would like my fellow Indians to read this interview.
Kalam: Hmmm……. okay.... and it'll take my mind off the 'dental nervousness'!!!

The ADC sat down on the opposite sofa and pulled out a pad to take notes. Kalam waived him off.

Me: Why is it that the Political establishment wants that only a Politician be elected to the Office of President???
Kalam: Well I can only take a scientific guess…… during NDA's time opposites attracted and I got elected…… now seems things are working in an unscientific way and so they want one of their own to be elected!!

Me: But shouldn't the Office of President be totally unbiased and apolitical????
Kalam: Yes ideally this should be the case because a Father figure sides only with the right!!!
Me: I feel the Political establishment takes you to be a step Father?? But then irony is that if a Politician becomes President won't he be step fatherly to non friendly Political Parties????

The ADC came up to Kalam and informed him that Sonia's treatment was midway.

Me: You made a statement at the very start that you were not interested in a second term!!
Kalam: If the Politicians are allergic to a non political person don't you feel that a non politician person would be equally allergic to them??? Don't you feel that I too would have been tired of all the politics being played with my Office???

Me: I'm sure you must not have forgotten the way they got you to sign proclamation of President's rule in Bihar!!! Coming back to the subject.....now why have you changed your mind and indicated that you are willing for a second term in Office?????

Kalam: Well to make a long story short I did some introspection and it struck me that if I can serve the Nation …. why not???? I don't know why people cannot see the selflessness in my decision….. I have no vested interests…. I have no masters to serve……. I have no family members pressurising me to continue!!! All that I told the Third Front was check your numbers and then lets talk!!!! And perks of this high Office are immaterial to me...... I've never got trapped in the trappings of Office!!!

Me: Coming to the Third Front!!
Kalam: Well these fellows came to me and as they sipped filter coffee I filtered their proposal to me . I filtered out the politics and found that there was some merit in what they said. I felt that I could be of service to India ……. continue keeping the President's Office away from Politics. I've been receiving lakhs of emails. And I notice that the minute Congress finalized its candidate the emails not only increased but started sounding desperate!!!

Me: But Congress says emails don't decide Presidents!!
Kalam: But emails and letters do keep all those in power informed. I think emails help to keep our ears to the ground and I would advise all those in power to read emails the Public sends to them....... never take people for granted!!!!

The Dentist came out and greeted Dr. Kalam and informed him that he would attend him in a short while.

Me: What's your take on the allegations that have come out about Congress's candidate???
Kalam: Fallout of a political appointee. An apolitical person would in all probability be free form such things.
Me: Balasahib says that if Pratibha becomes President will she be addressed as Rashtrapatni???
Kalam: Well if he could call a bachelor as Rashtrapathi then what's his problem about addressing a Lady President as Rashtrapathi??? For me its issues and not individuals.

Me: Very right……. like in the USA now in India too candidates for high Office are put under the microscope by the Media and Public…… don't you feel this is right???
Kalam: Its good for Democracy. This will ensure that tainted people do not occupy positions of power. And one must remember that false propaganda falls flat on its face because the Media and people do analyse what's brought out in the Public domain…. its like a double edged sword!!! But I'm against slander and comments like Balasahib made!!!

Dentist came in again and said that he was ready. Sonia came out and greeted Kalam and left.

Me: Any interesting anecdote of your Presidency you would like to let us know????
Kalam: Well when I became President a close friend said to me , "What does one say to the President of India"??? ....... I told him , " Just say Hullo"!!
Me: Tell me one thing how would you like your Presidency to be remembered???
Kalam: That I worked to distance the President's Office from politics and I worked to bring the President's Office closer to the People!!!
Me: Now what???
Kalam: Well my assets are all packed ......up here ( pointing to his head) ….. I'm ready to move on at a moment's notice!!!
Kalam's ADC came in and informed Kalam that the Doctor was ready. Kalam picked up a paper and penned something on the paper and gave it to me and walked away. After he left I read it:

I climbed and climbed
Where is the peak, my Lord?
I ploughed and ploughed,
Where is the knowledge treasure, my Lord?
I sailed and sailed,
Where is the island of peace, my Lord?
Almighty, bless my nation
With vision and sweat resulting into happiness

Who was responsible for this?

We all could understand that some junior babu working in the concerned Ministry would have put up a designation as 'IFS' for 'forest service' (may be vice versa) and another senior babu should have approved it (as the way he normally does). Similary, another junior babu at some other point of time had put up the same designation also for 'foreign service' and another senior babu had approved it without checking that there is something 'like this' existing already. It was all created only by the babus and for the babus without knowing what they are doing. Now, it has created serious problem in the governance of the country.

If we want to understand further, not many IFS (forest) officers have any opportunity to visit foreign countries and the scope is also limited. Where as 'the Indian' forests are totally foreign to IFS (foreign service) officers who would never like to visit Indian forests even in their dreams. Therefore, no conflict of interests.

Moreover, two different separate ministries are dealing with these two different categories of officers. The only common thing among the two is that both of them work in the same primitive way. That's all. Therefore, no problem as of now for the country.

However, it is wonderful to have such discussions for a quicker development of our country.

Thanks to this site for putting the Indian administrators together.

This trend has both points

This trend has both pluses and minuses. The other service persons manning important posts in State makes it a true Indian Civil Service as it is known from the days of its origin. Every bright candidate who takes up UPSC civil services thinks that he will be into prestigious steel frame of India. Its only after getting into a particular service and spending a few years in service will he/she realises how other services are treated as one below.
The minus part of it would be that most of the other service do not interact with politicians as much as IAS , from the beginning of their career, it may become a difficult proposition during such posting. The time available on the job for learning a few traits of the task, it may be advisable to run a short term course in Mussorie. All the best to all such other service officer to perform well and make their name.

P K Srihari
Foreign Service is superior

If you set aside politeness for a moment, you will realise that the Foreign Service is way too superior and there is no way that the Forest Service can compare to it. When there is contention, the superior service should be accorded preference.

Kuldeep Bharadwaj

Retirement age should not be raised
No, Retirement age should not be increased. A Single wrong decision may create lot of problems which may directly or indirectly may effect our society. In my opinion the retirement age should be reduced to 55. This may create the new jobs for the youth who are waiting for better future.

Samar Singh

It should be unwritten code of conduct

Once an officer is transferred s/he should not take any tours both with in the country or abroad. It is just not done. It is not only unethical but would give a bad and wrong impression to the hosts. This should also equally apply to the officers who are about to retire. None would take seriously. This would and should be applicable to political executives around the time of completion of tenure. It should form unwritten code of conduct for all.

T Ramchandru IAS

It is unethical to make tour

It is totally unethical to make tour at any place or transfer subordinates after receiving own transfer order. In fact even if you get confirmed information about your transfer order you must avoid ant policy decision .

Debate on Prime Minister

The fourth pillar of the democracy that is the media of late has become proactive in generating, moulding and manipulating public opinion. The debate over who would be the next prime minister of India seems to be an exercise of that sort to improve acceptability and reduce rejectability in respect of certain politicians who otherwise have tainted past and doubtful credentials to qualify for the post of the highest political executive post of that country which has recently been witnessing unprecedented growth in a very competitive global economy.

It will be unfortunate to give extension

This will be unfortunate as giving extension will stop the promotions in the lower cadre. Kanu Gohain is favorable DG to industry & all the politician, every body knows Why.............
He rose to this post from Steno in agricultural aviation to DG superseeding many person due to his cleverness & political contact from the NE & even with 10 Janpath.........
BAD LUCK TO ALL DGCA OFFICERS & STAFF

Raj Singh

Gohain is dynamic officer

He has been a very dynamic officer and has taken bold steps for exponential growth of the industry. I think he has proved himself to fulfill dreams of the Hon'ble Minister. He must get extension otherwise the department will be left with a big vaccum.

Gohain has done good job

Kanu Gohain has done a commendable job as DIRECTOR

SPs will head Police stations
I endorse the views of R Kumar that SPs would be heading Police Stations soon. Senior officers should not make themselves available for performing lower grade duties just in the lust of picking up higher ranks !

Three wise men

TAIL-PIECE

Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and George W. Bush went to a fitness spa for some
fun. After a stimulating, healthy lunch, all three decided to visit the
men's room and they found a strange-looking gent sitting at the entrance.
He said, "Welcome to the gentlemen's room. Be sure to check out our newest
feature, a mirror that, if you look into it and say something truthful, you
will be rewarded with your wish. But, be warned: if you say something FALSE,
you will be sucked into the mirror to live in a void of nothingness for all
eternity!"

The three men quickly entered and upon finding the mirror, Bill Clinton
stepped up and said, "I think I'm the most intelligent of us three," and he
suddenly found the keys to a brand new Bentley in his hands.

Al Gore stepped up and said, "I think I'm the most aware of the
environmental problems of us three," and in an instant, he was surrounded by
a pile of money to fund his next Presidential Campaign.

Excited over the possibility of finally having a wish come true, George W.
Bush looked into the mirror and said, "I think...," and was promptly sucked
into the mirror.--

SAIL, MOIL sign MoU for ferro-alloy production
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) today signed a memorandum of understanding with Manganese Ore India Ltd (MOIL) for setting up of a joint venture company (JVC) to produce ferro-manganese and silico-manganese. The Boards of SAIL and MOIL have already given in-principle approval to the proposal for setting up of this JVC.
MOIL in the public sector has large resources of manganese ore in India and is capable of providing high value added inputs. SAIL decided to enter into a strategic alliance with MOIL to ensure regular and quality supply of manganese ore at competitive cost. The proposed JVC will initially supply a projected volume of around 31,000 tonnes of ferro-manganese and 70,000 tonnes of silico-manganese, to meet a part of SAIL's requirement of these ferro-alloys to produce 24 million tonnes of crude steel by 2010, as part of the company's growth plan.
Maharashtra Elektrosmelt Ltd, a SAIL subsidiary, already supplies around 55,000 tonnes of ferro-manganese and 44,500 tonnes of silico-manganese to the steel producer, but this does not meet the company's entire requirement of the ferro-alloys.
The proposed JVC will produce ferro-alloys through three furnaces to be set up in or around Bhilai. Total capital outlay for the proposed JVC is estimated to be Rs. 225 crore. The company will be incorporated with a debt-equity ratio of 1:1 and 50:50 shareholding by SAIL and MOIL.
