Alarm bells for BJP, Maharajas and Maharanis can't rule!

Alarm bells have started ringing for the BJP at least in Rajasthan since with the congress defeat of Raja Amrinder Singh in Punjab, it has now become clear that the Maharajas and Maharanis can't rule to the satisfaction of their electorates. They can be a good supportive actor but not an actor. Will the BJP leadership change Maharani Vasundhara Raje Scindia?.

Stalwarts get promotion in GoI

With stalwarts like BVR Subramaniam as PS to PM, Vini Mahajan in PMO, Pravir Krishna in Cabinet Secretariat, Barun Mitra in President's Secretariat and S K Tripathy in Personnel Department (not to speak of several other PSs to Ministers), 1987 batch of IAS has stolen a march. Not only that they ensured the empanelment of their batch in quick time, now three of them have secured their posting as JS also. Vini Mahajan has been promoted in PMO itself as JS; Barun Mitra has been promoted again in President's Secretariat itself as JS and S K Tripathy has been posted as JS in DOPT (thankfully a vacancy existed there, unlike in PMO and President's office where new posts of JS got "created"). Several of 1986 batch at Delhi itself are still langushing as Directors, even though empanelled as JS.

Saturn-Mars conjuction may cause unease all around

February, March and April are Election time for some states in the country. These elections will take place in a spell of an unhappy relationship between Mars and retrograde Saturn. Mars presently in Sagittarius would be moving to Capricorn and from there to Aquarius-both Saturn domain-in the coming months. Saturn and Mars are not known to be astrologically compatible and therefore indicate polls dominated by unseemly behaviour, unbridled violence and unexpected assaults on some prominent political figures. Iraq will continue to witness cruel carnage. Governments in several countries will find the going tough. The ruling parties in the States in India going to polls have difficult days ahead of them. The stars do not favour their return.

My Choice is P K Mishra and Arun Kumar

In my view the top boss should be P K Misra , A.S. $ E.O. of D.O.P.T. and super cop should be Arun kumar, JD, who are known for their honesty, sincerity, integrity and dynamism for their work culture. Since, both officers are from U.P. Cadre and I am not a government servant , but I highly appreciate their attitute towards mass people.

All services have a different role to play

Rahul Singh's comments regarding IRS are not only childish but he appears to be unaware and ignorant of the structure of civil service. Does he know that UPSC grading changes within a fraction of a number? That interview marks happen to catapult you into the IAS just because you happen to be a senior bureaucrat's prodigy?.... there are several such arguments which any 'intelligent' person can fathom. As for the other arguments I can only say that all services have a different role to play in society and none can undermine other services or exalt their own. So it is in everyone's and the country's interest to work in their demarcated spheres without encroaching on others jurisdiction.

Best of luck Sudhir

Well done Sudhir and best of luck. Transform Punjab that has changed the concept of Enviornment in the country

Rahul Singh is correct

Rahul singh is correct that IRS mainly stay in delhi and mumbai--- some have stayed continuously only in mumbai or delhi from the begining of their service . In spite of so many policies some officers have been in mumbai and delhi for two decades .

Reply to Rahul Singh

I would like to submit a few points for observation / comment for Rahul Singh who I presume is an IAS officer of the ilk of Rejeev Rattan:
1. Ranks in the UPSC exam may not exactly indicate intelligence since the UPSC exam is not an IQ test; it is a known fact that quite a few candidates are pulled down in their interview marks due to lack of social graces which they unfortunately may not possess, due to lack of an English education in their formative years. Even otherwise, one swallow should not make a summer. The fact is that after the UPSC examination, there is very little comparative evaluation at all of officers from among various services, inter se and the brahminnical caste system is perpetuated based on a once in a lifetime performance which may itself be due to a large slice of luck (or the choice of some very unduly highly scoring subjects for the exam like Mathematics/ anthropology etc)also. In fact, toppers of the exam have been known not to do as well as officers from other services including the IFS, IPS and IRS even during common training at the IAS academy immediately subsequent to the selection. This is a verifiable fact and it would be most interesting to conduct a study on the phenomenon. In addition, merit cannot be the exclusive preserve of the IAS even otherwise. It is incorrect to say that only top in the merit gets IAS, quite a few toppers of the exam opt for the IFS, IPS and IRS which can be ascertained from the figures maintained by the UPSC itself.
2. That IRS officers do not deal with with poor/ rural/ illiterate people of the country is in no way attributable to them. That is their job profile. When they wish to come and serve the rest of the country, by going on deputation, their legitimate right to do so is resisted tooth and nail by the influential and mighty IAS lobby which jealously guards the posts actually open for deputation to all services and anybody as their personal turf.

3. IRS officers are actually posted at places called Purulia in West Bengal, Mahamaya nagar in UP and other places like that. The IAS, posted as Maharajahs of yore and in the style of the heaven born ICS, lord it over huge tracts of territory in their outsize bungalows, aided by their fleets of cars and retinue of servants/ orderlies/bodyguards and live in the lap of luxury. For that matter, IAS officers are also posted in the metros. Is Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Excise, Delhi Excise, Mumbai Sales Tax, Delhi Sales Tax, Bangalore Development Authority, Delhi Development Authority manned by the IRS? Most of the time the IAS officers are posted at state capitals or in Delhi or even abroad. When they do go to these so called smaller places, it is like the maharajahs of yore.

4. Which clubs is Singh talking about? For every IRS officer seen in clubs and five star hotels in the evenings by him, there are at least three IAS officers who can be seen in the same places (in fact so high profile do they get that they are seen regularly on page 3 of the newspapers). Had the IAS officers in their first 15 years really worked in districts, taken care of the law and order problems (which is actually the preserve of the IPS, arrogated to themselves by the rapacious IAS), rural development, and backward, poor and illiterate people, the condition of this country would have been far superior by now and we would not be cursing corrupt officialdom in this country for all the ills besetting it.

5. Singh should submit a list of his friends in IRS who never moved out of Delhi or Mumbai to the CBDT which can decide the issue. Similarly, Singh may prepare a list of his friends from the IAS who have always been on so called "good postings" always, like DM, MD of Corporations/ Public Sector Units, MD of Development authorities, MD of City Development Areas like Noida, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc, Secretary, Commissioner Excise/ Sales Tax etc to the DoPT who can decide the issue.

6. Saying that only IAS officers can be said to be an integral part of India's democracy because they have been trained, given responsibility to work with and for people is the height of arrogance. The system is run by the political executive aided by the permanent executive which does not consist of the IAS alone. Perhaps Singh does not understand the nature of democracy and feels that the ICS is still lording it over the country.Singh's remarks on the Tatas and Ambanis is due to his lack of awareness, the IRS does not man the Ministries of Pertroleum, Textiles, Civil Avaiation, Telecommunications, Steel etc which are of interest to the Tatas and Ambanis; by hook or by crook, the IAS manages to block out every other Service in empanelment and deputation to open, deputation posts in these Ministries in order to retain its hold on these Ministries and by proxy, on the Tatas and Ambanis.

7. As far as getting 1 crore in private jobs by IRS officers, the fact is that plenty of IAS officers are also getting the same either post retirement or after resigning from the Government.Contrary to Singh's understanding, all these chaps are paid for their competence and hard work. On what Singh says about IAS officers not getting nor dreaming to get in crores because they do not favour those who can not file Income tax Returns, let Singh recall the case of Gautam Goswami of the IAS.
Hope this makes Singh think and decide.
Pl publish this rebuttal of Singh's calumny on your easteemed website in the interest of fair play and equity since no person has the right to spew venom at others, and if it is done, the right to rebut should be granted to those against whom the diatribe is directed.

Aaj Ki Aawaz

Inflation is not coming under control,
And for this Congress has paid and will pay the toll!!!

Manmohan says he not an astrologer who can predict inflation's fall,
But he cannot deny that UPA's mishandling is responsible for inflation having such a ball!!

Okay he's not a astrologer but he is an economist,
And from the looks of it he's an economist whose turned from an optimistic to a pessimist !!!

Plastic containers to store food items will become even more cheap,
But the stuff you put into the containers will remain steep!!!

And if the poor are starving to death they can take solace as calls have become cheap,
Communication is cheap whereas khana peena is steep!!!

For help to their MLAs and MPs they can make from PCOs calls,
And calls are so cheap that they can keep calling till out of starvation each one falls!!!

And seems PC is more worried for Pets than us,
His reduction of Duty on Dog and Cat food in the present scenario many would cuss!!!

In UP if Congress wants to improve from fourth place inflation ko karro reverse,
Otherwise making people go hungry and then asking for Votes seems pretty perverse!!

For the excellent performance of Railways and Railway Budget Laloo has been awarded,
With refusal to CBI to appeal in his Disproportionate Asset case he's been rewarded!!!

Refusal by Law Ministry is wrong….. Lower Court's decision needed to be tested in Higher Court,
Law ko kiya Law Ministry ne retort!!!

Laloo aka as Mr. L is delirious with Law Ministry's Order,
Actually on ludicrousness does this order border!!

Congress of course will say this is because Mr.L's got their hands tied,
As Mr. L and his gang celebrated Justice sighed!!!

Amrinder says now he'll pen a another book,
And to his heart's content he'll cook!!!

His favorites are Butter Paya Patiala , Makkani Pigs Knuckles and Roasted Tittar,
He'll immerse himself in food after getting from the Punjabi Voter chittar ( meaning got booted)!!!

Amrinder should not get too involved in writing or cooking,
Because into his acts of omissions and commission now Punjab's VB will be looking!!!

Then he'll be busy trying to save his skin,
So that Punjab's VB does not put him 'in'!!!

Because of the rape cases against the Dera head deal with Sacha Sauda for Congress was sastaa,
Now in Punjab Akali BJP combine will make the Dera's haalath khasta!!!

Dera got Congress 10 seats in Malwa but made Congress loose out elsewhere,
Dera's Congress connection was difficult for many Punjabis to bear!!!

Why should UP ads make Congress shaky???
Congress needs only to get up from its sweet dreams…. time to waky waky!!!!

Remember ads cannot make up for what the people have borne or jhelod,
Mark my words in UP elections SP will be pellod (beaten)!!!

Like Amrinder Mulayam got up too late,
And like Amrinder he too knows his fate!!!

Moral of the story is start delivering from Day One,
And remember there is a time to work and a time to have fun!!!

Bharat Kumar

Ban on AXN channel revoked by Delhi

The Indian Government has revoked the two months ban on AXN Channel from 1st March 2007. The decision came in the wake of an apology by the AXN channel to the Information & Broadcasting Ministry for the violation of programme code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995. The channel has assured the Government that they have put in place a more effective self regulatory mechanism to ensure that the programmes and the advertisements telecast on the channel are in compliance with the Cable T.V. Networks Regulation Act. It is worth mentioning that the ban was imposed by the Government for 2 months from January 17,2007 for telecasting programmes such as 'World's Sexiest Advertisements' that were against good taste or decency and were likely to adversely affect public morality>
