Bring professionalism in Tax Administration

It is high time the government considers inducing professionalism in to tax administration. This can be done by hiring consultancy of some CA firms exclusively for government. Anyway, our income tax officials are in league with CAs. Any pvt company's finance staff will tell you how much they have to take 'care' of the CITs. Most of the IRS men have little knowledge of revenue knitty gritties and depend on the company CAs for routine case matters also ! Things are much better now. Thanks to the simplification of the Tax laws, the finance minister and N K Singh, ex revenue secretary and team. If at all the union government will do well to reign in the vested interests of the department officials who are only 'rent seekers' !

This will probably not be the first time the CBDT has two lady members working together. Last time it left the department in shambles, eroding the morale, integrity and polluting the atmosphere. I sincerely hope that such a thing doesn't happen and the horror stories would never be repeated.

Justification of IAS Revenue Secretary amusing !
A K Nair's justification for Secretary(Revenue)'s post is really amusing. Does he mean to say that all IAS officers are honest? What about Akahand Pratap Singh and his likes? There are many more. Does it justify putting other service officers as supervisory officers of IAS officers. I agree that IAS is ruling the roost by sheer principle of Jiski lathi usi ki bhains.

Taslima and Rajasthan Government

I don't think we should read politics in the action taken by the Rajasthan Government or the position taken by the BJP on the Taslima Nasreen issue. It is unfortunate that the West Bengal Government which claims to be secular could not provide protection to her against the rabid attacks on her life. In fact one sees its complicity in this madness, their claim to the contrary notwithstanding. Sanatan Dharm believes in "atithi devo bhava" and the BJP and its government in Rajasthan have only lived upto that noble principle. Duplicity of the pseudo secular parties on their role and silence on this issue has only brought ignominy and shame to themselves and the country. We can only hope and pray that they will redeem themselves by saving this eminent writer from fundamentalist vultures.

VRS by Kiran Bedi is welcome development
At a time when police officers are in the news mostly for all the wrong reasons like Rizwanur Rehman case, botched up investigations in cases of Jessica Lal , Priyadarshini Mattu , Upahar Cinema fire incident, fake encounter killings , recruitment scam in UP etc etc., news of VRS by Dr Kiran Bedi is a welcome development. She was a misfit in a system where compliant behaviour and not courage and character was the foremost requirement . Infact she should have resigned much earlier as her continuance lent respectability to otherwise rotten system. Now with her stature becoming still higher , she will inspire countless young men and women to follow the path of rectitude and lend her voice to all those causes which she could not do while being in service. Country needs more Kiran Bedis.

Powergrid to give consultancy to NDMC

The Power Grid Corporation of India ltd(PGIL)of which Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD)is R.P.Singh has entered into a pact with the NDMC.The POWERGRID has agreed to provide consultancy for system improvement & strengthening in NDMC area.Among others it will involve construction of 66kV & 33kV GIS substations, up gradation of existing 33kV substations to 66kV substation, underground cabling works,augmentation of transformer capacity etc.As the NDMC is catering to the VVIP area requiring uninterrupted power supply at all times. System strengthening project would meet NDMC's long term power requirement in a secure & reliable manner. The state of the art SCADA management system will improve data communication system, video conference facility, VOIP for speech communication within NDMC offices, Energy accounting & billing system,financial Accounting, payment of utility bills.
