The comparison is odd for the simple reason that Mr.Nair continues to be a bureacrat where as Mr.Aiyar has become a politician. Why DA Can't be exempted from IT ?

I understand that Dearness Allowance (DA) is given to neutralise the rising cost of living since it is linked to the wholesale price index. What I dont understand is that why should it not be exempted from income tax.

New blood is needed

This is in response to the comment of Shri Nagpal. If the retirement age is kept at 60 years, the govt will save the salary of such person - pension to that person. That money can also be utilzed to dig wells, build hospitals, schools etc.Moreover, new blood will instill new enthusiasm in the service.

I think Mr. Nagpal has restricted his calculations to a limited things only. What fun is there in keeping a top level individual who is at top of a top level pay scale, in comparision to add a new person at the bottom of ladder at initial of a lower scale, and allow others to move up. This will make everyone happy in the ladder and would provide employment to a new individual. This will also save money each individial would enter to his new scale at a much lower level. I hope all have read about Career progression and New Ideas with Youth Power. Paying more salary for two more years at higher basic pay and other perks wont provide nation more wells etc.

Why this difference ?

How it justify the minimum and the maximum basic pay in the Sixth Central pay Commission of the government employees. The minimum and the maximum basic pay drawers are living in the same place and the cost of living will not defer from person to person. Hence, the percentage may be avoided and atleast equal DA may be paid because the basics are having lot of difference.

New generation should not look only for Govt jobs

It would be best to decide nationally once and for all that Govt.(or for that matter, Private) service is not the father's 'jaidad or gaddi' that the son (or daughter) should inherit it. A person should work till he or she is able to, physically and mentally. The next generation must not look only to the Govt. for jobs.

GOI okays for IISERs in Bhopal & Thiruvananthapuram

The Indian Government has decided to set up two new two Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs)in Bhopal & Thiruvananthapuram.The cabinet approved the proposal on October 25,2007.A sum of Rs.500 crore per institute(i.e.Rs.1000 crore) would be spent on them. These are being set up by the Human Resource Development(HRD)Ministry on the recommendation of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (SAC-PM).Already three IISERs exist in Pune, Kolkata and Mohali.IISERs at Bhopal & Thiruvananthapuram shall provide high-quality scientific manpower to government organisations such as the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), teaching profession in other universities and other sectors of the society at large. They shall also cater to the growing research needs of the private sector.
