It is strange that everyone curses IAS
I find it strange that everyone curses the IAS with one breath and
with the next, seeks to join it, or rather infiltrate into it as PCS
or CSS and so on. Even the army wants to dominate the IAS and overtake
it by revising the blue book fixing precedence and protocol. The IAS
is attacked by all and sundry as a casual pastime.Since 1947 the IAS
has held the country together. Whatever erosion has taken place is due
to political pressure , political tinkering and straight forward political
corruption. To constantly criticise the IAS is to undermine it and demoralise
its officers who are already shouldering a huge burden. After all there
are only 4000 or so IAS officers in a country of 1 billion. The time
has come to do a fair assessment of the contribution made by the IAS
in nation building in the last 60 years. It is because of the IAS that
civil war has not erupted all over the country, nor have maoists been
allowed to have a bloodbath in the name of revolution. To make fun of
the IAS and criticise the red lights on their cars shows pettiness and
a small mind. Several news channels ,like NDTV are guilty of this.IAS
baiting is like Brahmin baiting and under it all seems to be bottled
up envy.

Why Hindu is targeted most ?
I would never decry the religious sentiments of any community but the
one question that comes to mind is why of all the religions in this
country is the Hindu always targetted the most -- almost as if he were
the alien invader and all the so called "activists" and "secularists"
are ready to pounce upon the Hindu and his beliefs and sentiments and
are even ready to go to this extent of trying to gun down the deepest
of their beliefs and integral part of their very lifeline
Is it because we have given so much in to the minority politics of quotas
and reservations or the pressures of the atheist communists or are we
today so much under the influence of the westerners and so subject to
their pressures that we are ready to marginalise and on occasion virtually
demonise the majority community of this nation ?
What is it that prevents the "activists" and "secularists"
from also speaking up and questioning the motives behind such questions
being raised -- and why does not anyone question the mythology or beliefs
of the Christian and Moslem religions ?
Where are Shabana Azmi and Father Cedric Prakash and all their army
of do gooders who at the drop of a hat are ready to brand the Hindu
virtually as a "rakshasa" ? Why such deafening silence from
them while that senile atheist and branded corrupt goes around ranting
his theories and probably because some one wants to make a lot of money
out of this deal and to hell with the sentiments of the majority of
this country
In Gujarati there is a saying "Thali ma pani lai ne dubi maro"
-- drown yourself in a saucer full of water -- if you can be shamed
to this extent.

TAIL-PIECE
After numerous rounds of "We don't even know if Osama is still
alive," Osama himself decided to send George Bush a letter in his
own handwriting to let him know he was still in the game. Bush opened
the letter and it appeared to contain a single line of coded message:
370H-SSV-0773H
Bush was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Condoleezza Rice. Condi and
her aides had not a clue either, so they sent it to the FBI. No one
could solve it at the FBI, so it went to the CIA, and then to NASA.
Eventually they asked India's CBI for help. Within a minute, CBI called
the White House with this reply: "Tell the President he's holding
the message upside down."
