1500 retired IAF men to get fresh appointments

Rs 1.65 lakhs per month is still low. Secretary is at the fag end of his career. He should get more. The pay of IAS officers should at least be at par with IIM graduates if not more. A starting salary of Rs 1 lakh would draw the right talent.

Question of shortage of Army Officers
Some out of the box thinking is needed on the question of shortage of officers in the Indian Army. First, out of the total reported shortage of over 11 thousand, at least half is at the level of Captains and Majors. If so, why can't these - at least of Captains - be filled through special recruitment drives followed by accelerated promotion from subalterns to Captains coinciding with the end of training and somewhat speedier promotion from Captains to Majors. As for deficiencies at the level of Lt.Cols and above why the Promotion Boards can't take care of the situation instead of overlooking the incumbents for their next rank en-masse which unfortunately is what is happening at present.
Shortage of officers is not a new phenomenon in the Army. We had shortages at the time of independence which carried on and peaked in the wake of expansion programme undertaken post 1962. These were being gradually made-up when as a result of raising of RR there was a spurt in the shortage figures as a result of transferring substantial number of officers (men also) to RR.
If in a country of 1 billion population and a sizeable number of educated unemployed youth our Army suffers lingering shortage amongst its HR base there must be something drastically wrong some where. Top brass in the Army are often heard saying that the recruiters do not find youngsters in sufficient numbers measuring upto their QR expectations and "quality" they say "simply cannot be compromised". Well if you are looking for quality that transcends what the sons of the soil have to offer, and aren't also sure of value addition through training aren't you asking for the impossible? The other argument I have often heard from knowledgeable people (and that I suppose is more plausible) is that accelerated recruitments aren't feasible because the existing training infrastructure is inadequate to cope with the extra load. If so, let us first upgrade the training infrastructure and then make up the shortages. Till then lets not go round the town cribbing for an ailment that simply cannot be helped.
A greater cause of concern perhaps is shortages at the PBOR level which needs to be addressed urgently by drawing up schemes for redeployment of the ORs from combat (Infantry etc) to noncombat (signals, AEC etc) arms after they complete their color service which is woefully shortlived.

Young IAS officers are being harassed

Neeta singh has touched the right chord. In various states State govt are harassing young IAS officers by appointing them at certain avoidable posts as they don't want to become slaves. Seniors these days are busy in their interest so let's forget IAS and give 100% reservation to PCS officers. They will also feel happy and young blood will got to IIM or IIT or will open a pan shop. In certain states they are not even given vehicles, houses and basic amenities. When will we wake up for the fraternity???

European English :
The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

Amul wins trade mark case in Gujarat HC

The Gujarat High Court in a landmark judgement has ruled that a registered trade mark user has the right to restrict others using their trade mark for different class or goods. It has also ruled that a registered trade mark is infringed by a person who, not being a registered proprietor or a person using by way of permitted use, uses in the course of trade, a mark which is identical with or similar to the registered trade mark and is used in relation to goods or services which are not similar to those for which the trade mark is registered. It further ruled that the contention of using a trade mark for a long time, without valid permission, is not acceptable, as passing off is a recurring wrong and therefore can be prevented at any stage and at any time. The problem of trade mark infringements has assumed alarming proportions all over the country. The Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. and GCMMF had filed trade mark infringement cases against two local shop owners - Amul Chasmaghar and its partners and Amul Cut Piece stores in the district Court, Anand. The order passed by Anand's district court on April 25,2007 was upheld by Mr.Justice D.N.Patel a judge of the Gujarat High Court. The ruling by the Anand district court had observed that it was a clear case of infringement and restrained the two from using Amul trade mark. Amul Chasmaghar had challenged this interim injunction in the Gujarat High Court.
