CHIRAG TALE ANDHERA.

This hindi proverb holds true in the case of Finance Ministry in so far as foregin tours are concerned. All rules instructions are ignored. Everybody is away on foreign tours at same time. In fact the foreign travel budget of 200 lakh has already exhausted and 6 more months remain. A number of more tours are in the offing and there is not budget. Though the Financial Adviser has pointed this out, no body is listening. Finance Ministry is advising others that no reapportion in foreign travel expenses will be allowed but yet to see what it will do in its own case.

Retirement age should be 65 years

In view of better health conditions of people and the rich experiance the employees have, government must increase the retirement age of its employees to 65 years .

Deepak Singh

Retirement age should not be raised

It would certainly be a welcome move if the age of retirement for civil servants is not hiked beyond 60 yrs. There are instances where those sitting at the helm of affairs go on getting extension after extension beyond their superannuation just by pleasing their bosses - something neither desirable nor justified ethically or by any other means. The younger lot gets retired as such, their dream of reaching the top remains unfulfilled just because the oldies remain firmly glued to their chairs. Narayan Murthy set an example by retiring at the age of 60 - something to be followed by one and all including the politicians whom we are bearing till the end of their lives.

CEO and DG should not be from IAS

In Doordarshan if CEO and Dg both belong to IAS then coordination and functioning might be very poor we seen this previously its a fine if DG should be from non IAS cadre as CEO is IAS.

What I meant to say ?

Myy writing was in no way intended to cast a doubt on competency and right of state civil services officers. In fact most of the time my colleagues from All India Services have benefited from the experience of state officers. What I want to say is that a young officer going to a far off state is most of the time shocked to see the realities. More often than not he is kept waiting or is posted to jobs where none of the other officers want to go. Here `want to go` being the keyword. Ideally we should go to any post the government wants us to go but this is far removed from reality. From first day onwards he can smell in the air that all is not well when he is meted out different treatment from different officers mostly on basis of being a direct and a promoted one or which state he belongs and also his caste. If I am wrong than may be it is what I have perceived being new to the services. According to me it would have been better that all of us would have been serving our respective states instead of this hypocrisy of bringing unity in the country while watching the seniors irrespective of source of recruitment going all out to please the political bosses.

Cricket should not be encouraged

I fully agree with Arvind regarding celebrating cricket. Can country be prosperous by promoting country. There are eminent personalities who have contributed to science, technology, agriculture for whom we enjoy a comfortable life. By encouraging such game we create more unemployment. It is a lengthy game and young people waste a lot of time playing this game. All don't achieve big in life. Those who don't achieve become almost unemployed at later stage. If we honour such people who have made our life comfortable and more and more people are attracted for science, technology, agriculture they cant be unemployed. They can easily earn their livelihood by salaried employment or self employment. Let us honour the people who have contributed to our existence than cricket alone.

TAIL-PIECE

Can I buy an hour of your time?
A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year-old son waiting for him at the door.
Son: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
Daddy: "Yeah sure, what it is?"
Son: "Dad, how much do you make an hour?"
Daddy: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?"
Son: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
Daddy: "I make Rs. 500 an hour."
"Oh", the little boy replied, with his head down.
Looking up, he said, "Dad, may I please borrow Rs. 300?"
The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or other nonsense, then march yourself to your room and go to bed. Think why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such an amount."
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions.
How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: "May be there was something he really needed to buy with that Rs. 300 and he really didn't ask for money very often!"
The man went to the door of little boy's room and opened the door.
"Are you asleep, son?" He asked.
"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.
"I've been thinking; may be I was too hard on you earlier", said the man, "It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the Rs.300 you asked for."
The little boy sat straight up, smiling "oh thank you dad!" He yelled.
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled some crippled up notes. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.
The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.
"Why do you want money if you already had some?" the father grumbled.
"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied. "Daddy I have Rs. 500 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."
MORAL
It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life.
We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.
If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.
But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.
