INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK

Six areas have been identified by Subodh Kumar Goel, Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of the UCO Bank, for improving efficiency of the staff & enhance reputation of the bank further. For Goyal motivating the workforce comes first then other things follow.

In an interview to <whispersinthecorridors.com>UCO bank's CMD Goel said "I am fully committed to my assignment always. I carry my team along with motivation for their high level of contribution which will lead to better performance and success. This is the secret of my success."

Replying to a question Goel said "we have initiated steps where we are State level Bankers committee (SLBC) conveners to achieve 100% financial inclusion. I am confident that we will achieve the same and it will be beneficial to the customers and for us too as it will increase our business and profits too." Here goes his interview:

1/What is going to be your priority area as CMD of UCO Bank? Please list two such areas.

A- Banking is a service industry. For an institution functioning in the service sector human resources are highly critical. Further more, for banks deposits are the lifeline. Even in deposits the low cost deposits are more important for bringing down the cost of deposits.

In view of the above, the areas on which I will be according top priority are (1) To build up a team to work for a common goal and to explore the potential to take the bank to a higher position than it had occupied at the time of nationalization and till 1980's (2) Maximize CASA. Presently CASA is too low @ 28% of total deposits. I would like it to be at least 35%in a year's time and to minimize Non performing assets (Non performing assets (Non performing assets (NPAs) to 2% of gross advances and 1% of net advances.

2/What is the secret of your success?

A- "The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary". There is no short cut to success, Success follows who are tenacious and who works hard and smart and utilize the opportunities and exploit the available potential. I believe in hard work. I am fully committed to my assignment always. I carry my team along with motivation for their high level of contribution which will lead to better performance and success. This is the secret of my success.

3/What new initiatives you intend to take in the UCO Bank?

A-I plan to introduce new initiatives in the areas of (i) personnel and industrial relations; (ii) strengthening of our Regional Offices specially where we are having the SLBC responsibilities; (iii) treasury operations; (iv) NPA control and recovery measures (iv) improving the standard of customer service (v)quickening the process of CBS rollout.

4/In what way inclusive banking & profitability be synergized?

A-It is estimated that a large number of common people at the bottom of the pyramid have not been brought under the purview of organized banking sector. There is vast scope of business opportunities. This system of banking has proved successful as well as beneficial to all concerned where it was actively followed. In view of the above and also the fact that there is need to bring all the people into the orbit of the banking sector. We have initiated steps where we are SLBC conveners to achieve 100% financial inclusion. I am confident that we will achieve the same and it will be beneficial to the customers and for us too as it will increase our business and profits too.

5/Can you tell us at least one way of fighting unemployment at grassroots both in urban and rural pockets?

A-Unemployment is a serious problem the country has been facing. There is large scale unemployment in rural and urban areas. Banks play a vital role in addressing this problem by providing credit for productive sectors. The credit provided by banks to industries, either. Big, small and medium enterprises provide large scale employment opportunities. In addition, banks also provide direct financing to agriculturists, self-employed people, professionals and self help groups which offer them self employment opportunities.

6/How do you like to chill out & what is your hobby?

A-I enjoy listening music and reading books. I also spend my time with my family and occasionally go out for relaxation. I visit temples quite often and derive moral strength to perform my duties in an efficient manner.

Is MP heading for Coalition era?
Is political scenario in Madhya Pradesh heading towards a coalition era? Answer to this question is certainly yes, if one goes by equations that are emerging in the state which has always been known for one party regime since its inception in 1956.So far it has been either Congress or the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which have been in power. However, it looks quite likely that in next polls Gondwana Gantantra Party(GGP),Miss Uma Bharati led Bhartiya Jan Shakti(BJS) Party, Phool Singh Bareya & Sukhlal Kushwaha's party (both are rebel leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party who have floated their own political outfis and Mulayam Singh Yadav led Samajwadi Party may join hands. Other possibility being considered is that GGP & BSP may join hands. The BSP has already selected solid 40 Vidhan Sabha constituencies.

FORUM

CSS v/s CSSS

This debate should end here

It was mentioned by a gentleman supporter of CSS that CSSS officers do the household work of their officers. The truth is that every individual tries to keep his boss in good humor. The difference is the level and the areas in which one tries one's hand to achieve that end. I have seen even IAS officers going to `household' areas to please their bosses instead of their designated work. Similarly, efficiency, uprightness and dedication to work are not the monopoly of CSS officers alone. Rather, in each group of officers, there will be all kinds of people - good and bad. So this debate should end here.

D Balanujan

No one can say who is good or who is bad ?

It is a fact that many CSSS officers have become CSS officers now. And they are doing good jobs. A CSSS Stenographer Grade 'C' has an advantage of learning directly from officers at senior level like Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, etc. whereas a CSS Assistant level officer has to learn from a Section Officer or Under Secretary. While a Assistant level officer becomes a master of records and office procedure, a CSSS officer after becoming a Section Officer has more potential to deliver goods.
So we cannot say who is good and who is bad in CSS - CSSS war.

Junior IPS officers are treated as dirt

No one can agree more to Arvind's observation. It is more prominent in police. Despite being the best brains and hard labour, the junior IPS officers are treated as dirt. They are rubbed wrong way by ill treating them. They do not allow junior officers to grow. Will they change and behave properly with their junior service collegues.

Santosh

It has become a fashion to blame IAS

I fully agree with Arvind. Now a days it has become a fashion to blame IAS for anything under the sun. Media, judiciary, other services all are finding fault with the service and at the same time they are very much proud of the India going ahead at a fast pace. People must think that they always tend to think that country could be better in absence of this system but can they guarantee?

Human Right Commissions are only for namesake

Singhal should remember that Human Rights Commissions are only for namesake and have only got powers to recommend and it is for the government to decide whether to consider it or not. It is again the Politicians and bureaucracy who do not want that any such body is made powerful be it the RTI or the Election Commission or the Human Rights bodies. So keeping expectation from them to set things right is out of place. It is rather better that Police be again placed under control of DMs to have a human face

Beer contains female hormones ...

Last month, National University of Lesotho scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer.

Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption. The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women.

To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each
within a 1 hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects:
1) Argued over nothing.
2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.
3) Gained weight.
4) Talked excessively without making sense.
5) Became overly emotional.
6) Couldn't drive.
7) Failed to think rationally.

No further testing was considered necessary.

Karat Vani…… Media is pro the Deal because it gets from US gifts!!!!
He needs to check up account books of his Party and other Commie outfits!!

Commies are the one's who have been receiving funds and gifts from overseas in kind and cash!!!
He should think twice before Media ko karre bash!!

Commies receive funds from Chinese and Russian benefactors,
And in their opposition to the Deal this funding is one of the biggest factors.

If a survey is held I'm sure Indians will say Karat is unpatriotic!!!
And most will say that Manmohan is patriotic!!

Even Dr. Kakodkar has said deal is good….technology embargos will be unshackled!!
And bleak power scenario will be tackled!!

If I were Bush I'd be worried!!!
Is by India the Deal being taken to the next level or buried????

On one side Pranab says Deal has been put on hold!!!
Till to the Commies by the UPA the Deal is sold!!!

PM says Deal is not on hold!!
Sonia metaphorically says the Deal is worth its weight in gold!!!

Commies say that Government should not take next level!!!
And if Government goes to next level then this UPA Government they'll level!!

To UPA Karat and Company may be God but to Indians Commies are India 's bane!!!!
Commies actually keep in mind only China 's and Russia 's gain!!!

China and Russia must be happy that Commies are making PM run round and round!!!
They must be happy that for the time being PM hands they have bound!!!

Next step is inevitable and India will go to IAEA and Commies will huff and puff!!
And all the huffing and puffing will only make them cough!!

Because Commies know that a mid term poll means Commie rout!!!
In both bastions Communists are afflicted with 'incumbency' gout!!

Some say in actuality Commies have bitten more than they can chew!!!
They reveal that Commies bark in Public at UPA but in private they mew!!

Problem with BJP is that it's politicising the 123 Deal!!
They are against the Deal only because Congress is 'at the wheel'!!!

'We'll reconsider and renegotiate if we come top power' Yashwant Vani!!
With your experience in Sarkaar Yashwant Ji baath karro siyani!!

Fact is India has negotiated intelligently and got a fair deal!!!
What gives Yashwant the confidence that on the table indefinitely there will be the 123 Deal????

If BJP wants political gain it should position itself as the originator of this Deal!!
Say if something is good for the Nation despite political differences good we feel!!!

India should come first and should not suffer because of political nehle pe dehle!!!
India should always come pehle!!!

If PCA is put under the scanner a lot of dirt will come out!!!
And then Public will agree that Kapil teekh karr raha tha shout!!!

PCA is I.S. Bindra's fiefdom!!!
On Public Land allotted questionably to PCA he runs his kingdom!!!

But Kapil Bhaaji at one time was thick as thieves with Bindra!!!
And he then had inside info that Bindra ran PCA like his personal Kendra!!

After all the lights installed in PCA were supplied by Kapil's Company!!
Those were the good ole days when he and Bindra kept each other company!!

How can this robbery of Public Land be allowed!!
The allotment of land to PCA should be disallowed!!!

Big B's proved to be a flop as Gabbar!!!!
Amjad Khan gave Gabbar the look of sher - e- babbar!!!

Big B looked more like a sicko in Gabbar's role!!
Could not touch Amjad's portrayal with a pole!!

After his release from Jail people are pleasantly surprised on his accent!!
He no longer speaks with a US accent bent!!

When asked if he's matured because of his travails Sallu said he was born mature!!!
Of course many would say he's still very immature!!

If he's trying to build an immature image so that Court will let him off he's being immature!!
And some people simply refuse to mature!!!

Sanju Baba is on a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi praying for divine intervention!!!
Does not even want 27 September ka mention!!

Waqt bahut hai balwaan.... we all are Waqt's gulaam!!
Ask Sanju he'll tell you why woh karta hai Waqt ko baar baar salaam!!!
