All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Manish Tewari has been appointed as spokesman of AICC. The appointment has been made by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. It is worth mentioning here that Tewari had worked on various posts in the party. He had worked as Indian Youth Congress president and had also contested election for the MP Ludhiana constituency in year 2004. Working as AICC secretary Tewari has held important assignments and remained in-charge of Congress affairs in Gujarat. Now, keeping in view the committed and dedicated services of Tewari towards Congress party, he has been appointed as one of the AICC spokesman.

Refer to ACR business by A VISITOR, the orders to consider "Good" as bad entry without intimating the officer is an example of ad-hoc thinking by the Government and reflects very poorly on the standard of governance. Even for the officer, who gave "Good" entry without any malafide intention, thinking it to be what it means literally in English, How was he to forecast that some years down the lane, some politician will define his own standard in English. The reporting officer had no intention of reflecting poorly on the performance of officer being reported upon. Now, after couple of years, the definition is being changed without any rhyme or reason. We Indians, have had the history of amending history so far. I am sure we will now set new standards in interpreting English too. Long live the Queen and her language.

Pay Commission must be extra cautious and transparent for finalising the pay scales for various levels- Under Secretary, Dy. Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary to maintain their dignity and importance. Unnecessary clubbing of pay scales be avoided. Hope justice shall prevail.

IRS (Income-tax) is superior

The Income-tax Department has already collected Rs. 200,000 crores by way of personal income-tax and corporation tax till 31December 2007 out of the budget fixed at Rs 267,000 crores as compared to Rs 33,000 crores collected in 1996-97.Out of such tax revenues collected by Income tax and Central Excise and customs through great diligence and hard work, our IAS officers will be siphoning off large portions for personal aggrandisement. The work done by Income-tax authorities is very demanding, requiring great alertness and high degree of intelligence to tackle tax avoidance and tax evasion.

CGHS hassles

Reference instances reported in your column about CGHS hassles. CGHS is a primitive unimaginative "Service" being provided in a very cumbersome bureaucratic fashion. For availing this pathetic service you have to laboriously fill in forms, check hospitals, fill in more forms, get counter signatures. What Rubbish ! What Drama being enacted for pathetic service being provided. Recently one doctor at a CGHS Centre near C.P. area did not even lift up his face from the computer when patient after patient trooped in. With one ear he heard the woes ,aches and pains of the patient ,with one eye he kept tapping the details of medicines to be prescribed, that also at a snails pace, and did not even turn sideways to glance at any patient. One wondered what one had done to deserve this Great Facility of CGHS and Why ,for Gods sake did one have to undergo this torture in the name of Benefit being provided by the Government!
There had been some welcome rumours about this CGHS service(disservice) being wound up. Whatever happened to that????
