GPF interest rate vs. inflation
Govt. servants are waiting eagerly and impatiently for the release of
report of Sixth Pay Commission. The inflation which is hovering around
12 per cent and is supposed to be increasing or remain at this level
for next 6 months at least. By lingering the report and implementing,
the same, the money which will be paid now or after two-three months
will have less purchasing power due to inflationary pressure and increase
in the rates of articles. The Govt. is paying only 8 per cent flat,
compoundable yearly on GPF contributions, whereas inflation is around
12%, thus loss of principal by at least 4% instead of earning something
on it. Therefore, apart from curiosity to know the status of report,
employees should also try to get the rate of interest on GPF increased
at least by 4% immediately so as to nullify the inflation.
Ashok Kumar Bhimani
It's great news. Now bloggers can brethe easy. This is a welcome step
and the govt must be lauded to take this stand - probably feeling the
heat of brunt of many senior officers awaiting a decision in their favor.
Looking at the unemployment scenario, it will be a great respite for
the youngsters looking forward for a babu job.

A Visitor's comments regarding retirement age:
Mr. Visitor, had mentioned that how this dispute i.e., retirement age
will be settled. Actually, this is not a dispute but because of some
self-centered and selfish persons who just want to while away their
old age at the expense of government. To suit their needs; this proposal
has come up. In the interest of the youngsters; it is better if this
proposal is closed up here itself and not talked about in future. When
the government is bearing the expenses towards CPC; these retirement
expenses are simply nothing. Government should pay more and give more
promotions to the younger and middle generation emplyees who are working
at present in Central Government.
A K Raja
Enhanced retirement age-A win win situation: Less requirement of physical
activity in the job, experience gained and better feeling of longer
time security will help in availability of better and more dedicated
stuff in government employees if the retirement age is increased. It
will also make jobs more attractive for newcomers. Unlike in the past,
the intake in Government jobs is no longer out of best available talent
in the country.
Rajiv Agrawal
Pay Commission.
Rumour has it that for want of time, the details of the pay commission
recommendations could not be examined and that only the pay raise and
perhaps the retirement age is being announced for now as these two issues
concern all.

Let the younger generation battle
With due respect, Mr Chellamaniji, since you are 53 years old and earn-
repeat - earn your monthly salary(however your implications are not
clear, we all do). In your note it was pertinent that you were worried
about some of your friends who are on the verge of retirement and have
yet to settle their kids. You views seemed selfish, SO.........THIS
AGRESSIVE ATTITUDE. If you have the democratic right to express your
views, so do we. What you expressed was perhaps the voice of a few hundreds
but what really hit you hard was the voice of millions and millions
of unemployed youth who are WAITING for their chances, with perhaps
more degrees than you. I fully agree that your experience counts, it
will count after 65, 70,85.........there is no end to it. Let the younger
generation battle for itself because I am sure if left to themselves,
they have the capability and capacity to perform their duties efficiently.
And leave the training part to DOPT. Now-a-days effective training programmes
are being held at all levels starting from UCS's. So broaden your scope
of thinking, have a large heart and make way for the younger generation
and the younger generation will shoulder your responsibility and will
then salute you

IRS transfer policy:
Fed up of reading feedbacks on IRS transfer policy as if this serious
national crisis. You have joined the Government to work any where in
India. If Govt. transfers you accept the decision or represent before
the Govt. with valid reasons citing rules under which you require relief.
Even if not happy , go to court for relief . What and how the forum
at whispers will help you? In UP, Mayawati Govt is transferring IAS/IPSs
every day from one place to other. Whether or not you feel happier than
your those colleagues?

IRS transfers & ground work
The latest debate in IRS circles is what will work in next year's transfers.
The groundwork will have to begin form now as officers appear more concerned
with transfers than with transfer pricing or revenue or computerisation.

Shame & Scandal in the Civil Service family
One cancer patient [civil servant] had to rush from his sick bed to

IRS transfers policy
What is this thing called? IRS transfer policy.
What is this thing called IRS transfer policy?
What, is this thing called IRS transfer policy?
What is this thing being called UP IAS IRS?
What is this thing being called 10th- 12th policy?
No one seems to have the faintest idea but the whole country seems to
be at war over it.

A group of aggrieved IRS officers has started doing detailed work on
analyzing the posting history of officers [especially ladies] and will
soon be giving out the names of 10 lady officers of IRS who are the
biggest violators of the transfer policy. Readers of the FORUM please
await further details which will be put out on August 10,2008.

Disappointed over Injustice.
There may be lot of heat and argument about the IRS transfers but all
were united on the injustice meted out to medical cases especially after
one officer was accommodated on the ground of being ill. Others had
hoped but now with the transfer season being officially over on July
31, 2008 they are waiting for next year and hoping. Such is life in
the services.

Congrats to all officers
Congrats to all officers. But what a pitiable & pathetic situation

secretary in one of the Ministries after serving as DFO IN HIS CADRE

IS STILL DFO IN THE YEAR 2008.REASON-STAGNATION AND NO AVENUES FOR PROMOTION.MORE

IRS officers' views invited
IRS officers are invited to air their views on the following aspects
of transfer policy / implementation:
1. Spouse clause
2. Children's education clause
3. Medical clause
4. Cap on deputations.
5. Max Eight years in Delhi or Mumbai in whole career
6. Max 16 years in one zone in whole career
7. Whether first in first out rule should be adopted
IRS has overtaken IAS and all other services in lobbying for transfers.
Officers are divided into two categories. One seeking station postings.
Others seek good postings regardless of station. Aha

An old timer's candid view
As an old timer of the IRS who retired over a decade ago, I can only
say that I have a tear in my eye for the scam surrounding the postings
of senior officers. In our days, if we had a problem, we met the Chairman
or Member Personnel and we would be helped out. The rot that goes into
the making or implementation of the transfer policy is really shameful.
In the olden days, we would be ashamed to go to Chairman and claim concessions
on flimsy grounds. Only if there was bereavement or a really serious
medical problem or at best a working spouse, would we go that far. Officers
who go to Chairman saying that their children are studying should be
ashamed. Everyone's children are studying. How can schools and colleges
govern all transfers? The lesser said about the other factors the better
but it is. I must mention that a service officer, who clings to the
tails of her husband's service or cadre brand name, rightly deserves
to be called a second fiddle service. I hang my head in shame.
An Old Timer
Transfers & its aftermath lead to collective man-hours, loss!
Your website shows so much controversy over the postings of Income Tax(IT).
It shows what the department is using tax payers time and money on--just
figuring out whose children are in which class or a mathematical jugglery
on who has done Eight years in Delhi or who is exempted/ not exempted
or who has done 14 years in north, or who should go how far from Mumbai
or who should go to this post or that, who should go to B or to C or
who should be rewarded / punished through the transfers by saying "allowed
to stay till next year or till October this year" or what have
you. Can anyone even dare to imagine, how many collective man-hours
are lost in this, both by the doers and the receivers of this policy.

Attendant: Welcome aboard Ala Carte Air, sir.
May I see your ticket?
Passenger: Sure.
Attendant: You're in seat 12B. That will be $5,
please!
Passenger: What for?
Attendant: For telling you where to sit.
Passenger: But I already knew where to sit.
Attendant: Nevertheless, we are now charging a
seat-locator fee of $5. It's the airline's new policy.
Passenger: That's the craziest thing I ever heard.
I won't pay it.
Attendant: Sir, do you want a seat on this flight, or not?
Passenger: Yes, yes. All right, I'll pay. But the airline
is going to hear about this.
Attendant: Thank you. My goodness, your carry-on
bag looks heavy. Would you like me to stow it in the
overhead compartment for you?
Passenger: That would be well, thanks.
Attendant: No problem (grunts). Up we go, and done!
That will be $10, please.
Passenger: What?
Attendant: The airline now charges a $10 carry-on
assistance fee.
Passenger: This is extortion. I won't stand for it.
Attendant: Actually, you're right -- you can't stand. You
need to sit, and fasten your seat belt. We're about to
push back from the gate. But first I need that $10.
Passenger: No way.
Attendant: Sir, if you don't comply, I will be forced to call
the Air Marshal. And you really don't want me to do that.
Passenger: Why not? Is he going to shoot me?
Attendant: No, but there's a $50 Air-Marshal hailing fee.
Passenger: Oh, all right, here -- take the $10. I can't
believe this.
Attendant: Thank you for your cooperation, sir. Is there
anything else I can do for you?
Passenger: Yes. It's stuffy in here, and my overhead fan
doesn't seem to work. Can you fix it?
Attendant: Your overhead fan is not broken, sir. Just insert
two quarters into the overhead coin slot for the first five
minutes.
Passenger: The airline is charging me for cabin air?
Attendant: Of course not, sir. Stagnant cabin air is
provided free of charge. It's the circulating air that costs
50 cents.
Passenger: I don't have any quarters. Can you make
change for a dollar?
Attendant: Certainly, sir! Here you go!
Passenger: But you've given me only three quarters
for my dollar.
Attendant: Yes, there's a change-making fee of 25 cents.
Passenger: For crying' out loud. All I have left is a lousy
quarter? What the heck can I do with this?
Attendant: Hang onto it. You'll need it later for the lavatory.
