Indian banks well insulated: Raman

India's banking and financial sectors are well regulated and therefore has had little or limited impact of the global meltdown said S. Raman Executive Director, Union Bank of India in an exclusive talk with whispersinthecorridors.com. Raman while sharing his views with Prakash Pillai our Magazine-Editor,observed unlike the foreign banks Indian banks were working within the country and were not purely export driven, hence the meltdown has so far not affected Indian Banks.

He said the regulators have stepped in to check inconsistencies in the system and taken corrective measures time and again and it is this aspect of Indian economy which is keeping it going even in these tough times. The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) and Finance ministry's package to keep market sentiments positive and not allow pressure to build up about liquidity crunch has yielded good results, he added.

Referring to the aggressive promotion undertaken by the Union Bank of India, Raman said the bank plans to become the third largest bank in the country. "At a time when banks in foreign countries are pruning staff we are on a recruiting spree," he said. The Union Bank is aiming to start about 500 new branches across India. There are already about 1500 ATMs of the bank in the country,he added.

Union Bank of India is the only bank in India to have cent percent connectivity. The bank under its expansion programme is ensuring optimum utilization of manpower to take care of specialized and diverse banking needs.

Even if the entire Mumbai attack was filmed Pakistan would still ask for proof!
Pakistan would reject this as a spoof!!!
India needs to take a realistic approach!!!
And change its soch!!!
India should ally with USA and Israel to give a fitting jawaab!!!
Settle the long pending hisaab kitaab!!
But for this Congress which is in power needs to give up its vote bank siyaasat!!!
And it needs to do this futaa-futt!!!
I've said this in the past and repeat….terrorists with every attack gets bolder!!!
So a pact to take on terror jointly with US India needs to solder!!!
Pakistan is like the proverbial 'laaton ke bhoot joh baaton se nahi maanthe'!!!
Like now they know everything but sham 'hum kuch nahi jaanthe'!!!
Heartening to hear Rahul's speak in the House!!!!
Now hope with some caveat his sentiment ko he or Congress do not douse!!
Because with a caveat Congress could try to placate its vote bank (majority minority)!
Congress has the expertise to pull off such a prank!!
First Sonia, Rahul or Mohna frankly karte hai speak!!!
And then Congress karti hai statement suitably tweak!!
Like attack terrorism and also keep vote bank intact!!!
Congress has the required tact!!
Example…. Rahul demanding 1984 perpetrators being made to pay!!!
And in Delhi he's on a podium listening attentively to what Tytler has to say!!!
Commies have linked the Mumbai attacks to the Deal!!!
'Attack was because of the Deal' they feel!!
And they have the permission of China to make this allegation!!!
Commies deserve the severest condemnation!!
Commies should realize terror started way before the Deal hoaa tha ink!!!
And spurted and got bolder because India chose to blink!!!
The attack on Mumbai was just terrorists becoming more daring!!!!
Because to tackle terror pathetically the Sarkaar was faring!!
Commies were the only sore thumbs in the House,
While others demanded that fire of terror India needs to douse!!
Sarkaar boasts inflation is going down ....but food item prices karr rahe hai rocket!
For food more money is going out of the pocket!!!
So actually inflation is still galloping at 10% plus!!!!
Food item prices are making people at the Sarkaar cuss!!!
Come winter and veggie prices do fall!!!!
But this time like the winter fall ho gaya hai stall!!!
So on a year to year basis inflation is galloping!!
And Indians ko it is walloping!!
Confucius says….Mohna buy the same food items from the same source week on week!!!
You will realize that Sarkaar has failed badly in plugging in our budgets the price leak!!

I would like to propose Gurjit Singh, presently India's ambassador to Ethiopia, IFS 1980 batch.
Gudu Singh
In my travels, I have met many bureaucrats and you can spot them from a mile with their sartorial inelegance. I, however, remember an Indian diplomat whom I met in Nairobi several years ago. He was an IFS officer of 1980 batch. Gurjit Singh who was smartly dressed and respected for his sartorial sense.
Ramesh satyam
Best dressed official?
I recall meeting this Indian diplomat in Rome. Gurjit Singh an IFS officer I thought he took care to be well turned out.

CCL - broad-minded V/s narrow-minded
Lack of clarity in the minds of officials handling the subject has brought this in the forefront. The Government, headed by liberal Prime Minister, has been trying his best to keep pace with the time. The officials of SPC also read his mind well and all the recommendations made accordingly. Grant of CCL was one of them.
While initially everybody appreciated the recommendations of SPC, soon hue and cry is being raised against recommendations meant for selected ones, without going into the real intention behind those recommendations. I consider grant of CCL a very bold decision and one, that is in national interest. Everybody wants to finish the terrorists, goondas, thieves and other anti-social elements. There are very few who think about preventive measures. It is my humble request to those who demand death to terrorists to peak into their childhood days and then say the same thing. In more than 90% cases, the reason for these children adopting anti-social activities, is lack of nil or inadequate attention by parents, esp. by mother. Few wise officials observed this and by granting CCL tried to ensure that at least children of government servants are not bereft of parental care. The protest by few on this site shows that they do not want such favour to these children. In other words, they feel by granting CCL, children of government servants (cent percent), would contribute to country's cause and they would be unable to find children of this class to be lured into anti-social activities.
Therefore, I humbly request government to grant unconditional CCL to female employees. After all, how many such female employees are there left in government within children below 18 years of age? I don't think more than 2% would be left and if granting leave to these 2% blocks the work of the Government (as have been noted by few on this site), then what are 98% officials doing. There is also need to train officials in the DOPT about the trends in liberal societies and not get influenced by mere protests of a few. Time today calls for grant of CCL unconditionally in national interest.

Cops should discharge duties sincerely and carefully
Few days back there was a demand from somebody who was advocating for more pay n perks for police than babus. The facts brought out in yesterdays Hindu (Chennai) edition about the total inefficiency of Mumbai senior police officials in the hour of crisis (terror attack) was alarming and shameful too. The article states that only 6 out of total 26 DCP rank officials responded to the terror attacks. One very senior official parked himself in a bullet proof vehicle at an irrelevant place. Others did not even respond to the mobile calls. Further there was an abnormal delay in taking charge of police control room. Thus, the magnitude of dereliction of duty was enormous leading to so many loss of innocent lives. This sufficiently exposes our lapses in the security system. Therefore instead of harping too much on who should get more pay n perks, we should discharge our respective duties sincerely and carefully. The debate on whether babus or thullas should get more will not serve any purpose at all.
