Pay rules of IAS officers have been amended. Accordingly they will get the pay scale of Rs.18400 on completion of 14 years in service. Previously they used get the above pay scale after putting in 16 years of service.

Another feather in Vasundhara's Cap: Quantum Jump in Rjasthan's Annual Plan for 2008-09

Rajasthan's Annual Plan for the coming year was fixed at a record Rs. 14000 crores after a meeting of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. In the meeting, all the members were impressed by the eloquence and knowledge of the Chief Minister who spoke on developmental issues across the board. Deputy Chairman and the members of the Planning Commission commended the track record of Rajasthan on Public Private Partnerships. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's suggestions on expanding the scope of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to include capacity building, skill development and activities like data entry, local web content development and translation were appreciated by all present.

Record growth in collection of Direct Taxes

Direct tax collections continued to record a growth of over 40 percent for the period April to January 15 in the current fiscal. Net tax collections stood at Rs.2,17,149 crore, up from Rs.1,52,993 crore during the same period last fiscal, registering a growth of 41.93 percent and achieving over 81 percent of budgeted direct tax target of Rs.2,67,490 crore. Corporate Tax registered a growth of 37.22 percent at Rs.1,32,948 crore, up from Rs.96,883 crore during the previous fiscal, while Personal Income Tax (including FBT, STT and BCTT) grew by 50.15 percent at Rs.83,897 crore, up from Rs.55,874 crore. Growth in Securities Transaction Tax (STT) was 78.19 percent (Rs.6,793 crore against Rs.3,812 crore) and Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) was 64.79 percent (Rs.5,121 crore against Rs.3,108 crore). Banking Cash Transaction Tax (BCTT) grew by 15.26 percent (Rs.423 crore against Rs.367 crore).Tax deduction / collection at source increased by over 51 percent while self-assessment tax (unpaid taxes paid voluntarily before submission of tax return) increased by over 59 percent, indicating continued improvement in tax administration and tax compliance levels.

Mayawati in bogus gift case !

There is some confusion in the minds of people regarding ITAT (Income tax Appellate Tribunal) exonerating Mayawati in bogus gift case. People are wondering how can a sham gift which everybody knows to be a managed gift can be treated as genuine. I will explain it. It's just like in criminal justice system, if there is no witness or no document to establish the crime, the criminal doesn't get punished. So we all know that the gift is fake but unless any of the supposed donor comes forward to say that the gift shown to be received from him has not actually been given by him, the department will not have any material to bank upon. Second alternative is some other person may come forward with some kind of evidence to establish the fake gift.
So long as our laws and the Evidence Act are like what they are, people will keep using the loopholes available.

Promotion in 14 years

This is for the comment of Suresh. IAS will be getting super-time in 14 years and IPS are getting IG (Supertime scale) post in 20 years. First of all DIG is not a SAG/Supertime scale post, and also the IPS are not getting DIG rank (it is little above than NFSG) in 14 years, generally in 15-16 years only.

HCC Turnover up 39% to Rs 753 cr for Q3 2007-08

Turnover of the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC)has gone up by 39% at Rs 753 crore compared to Rs 541 crore for the corresponding period last year.Profit before Tax has gone up 34% to Rs 38 crore over Rs 28 crore.The company is awaiting award of projects worth Rs 4000 crores where its bid is lowest. The company also reported that the tenders under evaluation are Rs 5827 crores and where it is pre-qualified to bid are over Rs 7200 crore.Lavasa, the new hill station being developed by HCC Real Estate, the 100 per cent subsidiary of HCC had a successful launch on Dusshera (October 22, 2007) where sales target for the year 2007-08 has been achieved.Construction work is also on full swing for the 1.9 million sq ft IT park being developed by HCC Real Estate in Vikroli West.
